Razo #5 comin along!

You're not going to believe the guitar Jonathan is building me. Only his 5th build, but it's looking amazing! Flamed claro walnut b/s, curly redwood top, spalted maple spiral rosette, 2 elliptical sound holes on side, bound in coco (everything is bound in coco-- top purfling is in spalted maple), cantilevered neck, florentine cutaway, coco backstrap..... it's going to be flat out amazing!!! You should get on his build list asap-- you won't get a better deal or more personal attention! This young man is an up and comer!

Thanks Pete,

I appreciate the opportunity that you have taken with me. It's been a pleasure planning, and making your guitar! Hopefully it sounds just as good as it is going to look! BTW here is a sneak peak for everyone, these pics were taken right after the binding went on, so it had not been sanded yet (just FYI :D)

I can't breathe now! :-)) And you expect me to go to sleep after that :D

Thanks, Jonathan. You're an amazing young man.... very excited about your budding career. Can't think of a better group of people to start with than this community at the AGF!

each of the guitars that have been shown here have been gorgeous and as much as you can tell from youtube, they sounded great as well. It is fun to watch this all get started.

Very nice Jonathan...I still have to get back to you regarding back/sides. Are those A4 kerfings you're using? Sweeeeet!

Its folks like you that put me off going into lutherie. How dare you make such beautiful guitars so soon into your journey.

mikealpine 07-01-2012 07:08 AM

Jonathan, you show craftsmanship and creativity that one would expect after a much longer time in building guitars. I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am. Do you do arm/rib bevels?

Pete, this is going to be an incredible looking guitar! Congratulations!! What's the headstock going to be like? Eagerly following this with you, although obviously not as eager as you are...

Back of the headstock will be coco with sap wood. Front will be some combination of all the woods on the guitar: claro/redwood/spalted/coco (bound in coco, like the body/neck).... still working on creative ideas for the look of the top of the headstock-- anybody with a cool design thought, throw it our way :-)

mikealpine 07-01-2012 08:18 AM

I figured the headstock would look very cool and interesting; number 4 was done so well. No ideas, just anticipation. Jonathan seems to have a lot of great ideas of his own!!
