Breedlove Bridge Truss System and Tone

How much does the bridge truss system affect the tone of my ADSM Breedlove? If the truss is adjusted slightly, will it allow the top to vibrate a little more, or help to enhance the top or bottom end? Just curious.

Bracing is both tone-shaping and structural.

The structural aspect is needed to prevent the bridge from rotating due to the pull of the strings.

In the case of Breedlove, they decided to go light on the X-brace and then they employ that JLD truss to help prevent the bridge from rotating.

If you loosened or removed it, you'd probably get an increased bass response at the cost of structurally weakening the top.

Hi. I wasn't thinking of removing it, just wondering if it might be used to "tune" a top somewhat.

Yes, tightening it would restrict the bridge from rocking -- probably making it quieter and brighter. Loosening it could do the opposite, but it depends on whether the truss is already in contact with the tail block.

One reason I'm curious is I installed a little heavier gauge string than was previously on the guitar, and the tone is deeper now, of course, but not as loud. I'm thinking the tension difference of the strings might have affected the bridge truss.
I just now found out about the bridge truss, so I know absolutely nothing about it.

In my experience, there is a "sweet spot" I the adjustment of a JLD. That applies to both guitars designed for them or not. Too tight and you end up choking the top. Too lose and you risk rattling parts, or structural damage to the guitar top. They can be adjusted but they need to be snug at a minimum. And yes, by adjusting them you can (effectively) tune the top. Whether that tuning is useful or not is up in the air.

I forget if Breedlove has info on their website but if you search for JLD Bridge Doctor, there is a bunch of information.

Breedlove bridge truss system

Thanx. I will check it out.
I'm new to this site. It looks like a pretty good one!
