Larrivee factory locations

I recently acquired a Larrivee D03 and an L03. The L03 label says made in Canada. The D03 label says made in British Columbia, Vancouver. Both are Sapele, but the D03 actually says "SP" in the model number. I will say that the L03 has a nice smell to it, kind of like a Martin. While the D03 smells like glue. Are these two different factory locations? Which is older? Is one a more desirable location?

Umm... Vancouver, British Columbia is in Canada. Is that your question?

Yes. I'm aware that Vancouver is in Canada. But I thought there were two different Larrivee plants in Canada. Wondered if my labels were indicating that they were from two different plants.

I may have answered my own question (with help from the Larrivee forum). I think there's one Canada plant and a shop in California. The label might just indicate different periods in time.

larrivee makes the 03 series in canada, and most of the rest of their lines are now being made in california. the L-03 and the D-03 were made in the same factory. to me still, even though i no longer own one, sadly, this line of all solid wood acoustic guitars are some of the best value going today at this price point.

The current Larrivee Canadian plant is in Vancouver, BC. I believe it makes mostly the -03 series guitars. Another plant is in Oxnard, CA (I've been on the tour there...given by Matthew Larrivee). It makes the higher end guitars and is where Matthew, Jean and Wendy live/work.

Before Larrivee moved to Vancouver they had a plant in Victoria, BC. And before that, I believe, they had their original plant somewhere in Quebec.

I would guess that the guitar with the label that simply says Made in Canada was an earlier model either made in Victoria or Quebec. All -03 models I've seen made in the past few years have said Made in Vancouver.

the SP means sapele back and sides on the new larrivees

Larrivee is made in California? I didn't know that. I may have to get me one of them Larrivee's.

I thought that SP stands for Super Plectrum.

Yup. I toured the Oxnard factory in August 2006. Matthew gave me the tour personally and I met Jean and Wendy. Very cool people, great factory...smaller than I expected, though.
