Oh, I wish I had a rosewood Telecaster

like the one George Harrison had. (I know, they are making a reproduction, but my wife would kill me, especially since I already have a Thinline, which was designed by the same guy).

They're pretty but awfully heavy. A Les Paul is what I carry if there's that much weight involved....or a moving truck. ;)
|
price is the deal killer. otherwise a great guitar for sitting down and playing all day long.
play music! |
Meh ... sorry but alder for me.
|
you can get a used PRS rosewood neck for a surprisingly good price... Yes no relation to a Tele. But in many respects a "better" guitar for a much better price.
But I hear ya. Super iconic guitar from a super iconic moment in rock history. |
Isn't that sung to the tune of, "I wish I had an Oscar Meyer Wiener?"

Local dealer sold his allocation of 4 guitars within a few hours.
It's okay, still love my ASAT. |

I would definitely hang one of those all-rosewood Tele's off your shoulder for a good while, before you get one... they are REALLY heavy...

Jerry... yes, I'll admit that they're awesome to look at - very appealing, initially. Until you get to the details and have to live with (and pay for) it. I've considered getting one on a few occasions.
But they are priced too HIGH and mostly are just TOO DANG HEAVY. Even playing while sitting, it's going to dig into your leg like a heavy Les Paul. No thanks. Ultimately, I'd pass on it due to these reasons - (yes, I'm a Tele lover! Well-squared away with three custom Teles.) I'd go Alder, myself, with a contour body and customized to your choice in premium pickups, switch, and electronics: http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/p...P1000133-1.jpg Or semi-hollow Cabronita, anyone? The Cabronita semi-hollow is such a light-weight joy to play. On the right, the Gibson Classic '50s humbuckers give a Tele such a rich and full tone. And I love rosewood fretboards on my Fenders. http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P1050147.jpg Man, I love me some customized Teles! Contour body, light-weight, well-balanced - perfect for playing while sitting. You can make your own with a custom rosewood neck, if you like! These guitars are so easy to customize, you can dial them up just exactly as you want them to be. |
Yup, rosewood board, alder body with contour:

Coincidentally I found this ad for one in Oshawa which is not far from Toronto:

Just an alternative suggestion to a Fender Rosewood Tele, unless you're only interested in a Fender. I would understand that if you were. I have several Fenders, both Tele's and Strat's and they are great.
I bought a used Anderson Hollow T Classic Rosewood in 2005. Rosewood top, Alder back, rosewood neck and fretboard. If you find one used they are significantly cheaper than the Fender version I think. I paid about $2,000 for the one pictured below. Since the alder is chambered, it's also very light. http://i.imgur.com/B7FYvx5.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8vRBYhM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/iTxprEu.jpg |

Good question. The Rosewood Anderson does not have the classic bite/twang of a Fender Tele. It's a great rhythm guitar, but I don't like it for lead work. I got it because I've been a big Beatles fan my whole life and loved George's rosewood Tele in the "Let it Be" movie.
I have a '52 Tele Reissue I bought new in 1983. That one has the classic Tele sound. Full disclosure, I reserved one of the limited edition Harrison Rosewood Telecasters from Musicians Friend yesterday. It won't be available till November though. I'll A/B them then. |
