Playing cross-tuned in open G
Originally recorded on my first CD, Crossing Crystal Lake, this is The Light In The Distance.
It's played in open G tuning, capo 2, but played off the IV chord, hence key of D. The closest equivalent would be when a C harmonica is played in the key of G, which is referred to as cross-harp. It's one of the 'churchiest' pieces I've composed, especially coming up from the IImin, etc. Enjoy! Howard |
Howard you're a blessing to the guitar community! Fantastic tune and playing!

Very well done, Howard! I know that song from your first album! How nice to hear you play it live with a slightly different feel!
I always love the groove you manage to find in every one of your compositions! Just excellent! - Glenn |

Thank you for listening! Yes, after so many years it's nice to finally get a handle on how to really play a piece, and your comparison perspective really gives you a clear view of the evolutionary changes. Duke Ellington & Irving Mills are still right: It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. HE |
Lovely, Howard.
