under $700 thanks. Dont bother recommending anything costing more than that. |
Check out the Seagull Maritime series.

Cheapest or best value? Two different things.
From what I've see, one of the best values are the Larrivee L-03 or D-03, or OM-03. Cheapest maybe one of the Guild GAD series, maybe Martin D1GT, or Taylor might have a cheap all solid wood guitar. I think Seagull or Norman have an all solid wood guitar that might be cheaper. Out of all of these, i think the Larrive is the best value. They are hand made and worth the extra couple hundred. I have been looking at these for a while now and I think will be buying one soon. Hope this helps. |

You want a lot for a little, IMHO.

I think you're ruling out some great guitars. There are some solid top with laminated back and sides that are better values (build quality and sound) than cheap all solid boxes. Why not let your ears and fingers decide?

(And as for electrics -- ignore them. For your price range they won't be worth the extra $$, and you can always get a good pickup later.) |

I just try to answer the actual question rather than tell him something he already knows like he should go out and try them. His question was what is the best value or the cheapest solid wood guitar, not "should I go out and play a bunch before I buy one", which I would think most people would do before they buy a guitar. |

best response yet lol. |
Silver Creek D-160. And it looks like they are on sale again. Mixed reviews here on the forum. But they do have a lot of fans. Yours truly being one of them.
It'll need a string change and set up when it arrives. But when you're done, IMO it's the best bang for the buck. IT IS "Alot for a little". I like 80/20 strings on mine. http://backstage.musiciansfriend.com...5000010000.sku |
For me the best value for under $700 was a new Martin OM-1.
Unfortunately an OM-1e would likely cost you more. |

The reason folks recommend laminated backs is you can buy a top of the line Yamaha solid top Lam/ back and sides with his budget, among other brands. Said Yamaha is going to be a IMO Much better guitar than a bottom of the line solid guitar. For the budget if seeking solid I would seek out used and still be stretched to find something to beat a Yamaha, Blueridge, Recording King with a set up. |
