question on guitar parts on "me and julio"

there are at least two main guitar parts on this paul simon classic. i'd like to learn the (ostensibly simpler) repetitive, slightly quieter part that starts at the :06 second mark on this video but i can't find a video tutorial (and i don't read music, sadly.)
it's *not* the main riff, but more of a background figure in a higher register.

might anyone know what is being played in that part?

Take a look at this video and see what all of the guitar players are doing. This should get you on the right track.

hm. i can't see/hear that any of the guitar players in that version are even playing the part i'm looking for. i'm a beginner - ok maybe advanced beginner - i certainly can't extrapolate anything from that video :(

I listened to the original. I can't be sure, but it might just be the same chords that Paul plays in the fifth position (A-D-A-E at the fourth fret) but with a different rhythm. You'll notice that after that second part comes in, Paul switches to the first position chords.

This is taken from the second video. I can't access the first one.

Sounds like the second guy, answering the first guy, is pretty much playing the same thing as the first guy and in the same position on the neck, but he is playing a D, not the not D6 the first guy is playing, and he is EQd differently. He is not as full in the mix, but he is in the same place on the neck. The first guy is just employing a more active right hand.

interesting... i see i can just bar the G-B-E strings for the entire thing and just use my ring finger for the other notes in the third and fourth measures. it's still quite fast at the original tempo, not to mention how much it's gonna destroy my pointer finger to practice that barred the whole way... but at least i know what to play now. thanks!
