For our Beatle fans ... "While my guitar gently weeps." ; )

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6233/6...aeac0843_b.jpg

The steady hands needed a steady back. Tim decided to sit for the time being.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6211/6...52ee9287_b.jpg

The routing begins:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6092/6...391bd906_b.jpg

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6240/6...4c4acb5d_b.jpg

Clean cut:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6239/6...46bf6edc_b.jpg

The diamonds are set into place:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6043/6...c335d795_b.jpg

The ebony dust is glued into place to assure Tim of a long lasting fit:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6059/6...52ba34b7_b.jpg

A litle more glue is added:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6120/6...5400d8e9_b.jpg

The orbital sander will show him how the diamonds look:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6215/6...f96a5ea4_b.jpg

Pretty!

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6054/6...5a437e6f_b.jpg

bk314159 11-22-2011 05:37 PM

Time to add the bridge:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6035/6...1173455b_b.jpg

Glue...

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6229/6...fca83d20_b.jpg

Set the bridge in place:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6052/6...e11ac8b1_b.jpg

Removing excess glue from the bridge area:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6060/6...b953a2e7_b.jpg

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6043/6...ab78e09b_b.jpg

... and now Tim adds the neck ...

bk314159 11-22-2011 05:48 PM

Now the neck will be glued on:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6213/6...8d302cc2_b.jpg

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6101/6...47741810_b.jpg

Ready, set ...

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6057/6...8769494c_b.jpg

GO!

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6042/6...d2d9c654_b.jpg

He bolts it into place:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6102/6...e9b40ce2_b.jpg

and clamps it on before he removes the excess glue here:

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6099/6...28e82e2f_b.jpg

The neck fits fine - the glory goes to the Lord.

I want to thank Tim and Mary for documenting this (and all their) build(s) so well. I think the next to last picture is one of my favorite photos. I guess my guitar is almost done - and I think it's gorgeous.

Mary also sent some photos of Osage Orange, but not the wood, the fruit but I think I'll start a separate thread for that. As always thanks for following this thread.

I've not read this whole thread, but I'm wondering what sort of glue that is. Is this hide glue?

I'm finding it interesting that it wipes up off of the finished wood so well.

Billy Boy 11-22-2011 06:39 PM

Too pretty for words!

Yes, its Hot (150*F) Hide Glue not the cold pre-mixed brown glue from the hardware store. I use it on neck joints, bridges, as well as top and back braces. It does clean up relatively easily with HOT water and a terry cloth rag.

*sigh* yet another McKnight work of art. I'd sorely love to hear how this one sounds. What song would be the best benchmark though? ;)

Hmmm, I wonder what song I shall hear first.
You're funny, Neil.

naccoachbob 11-23-2011 05:28 PM

Wow, that's nothing short of stunning.
Beautiful work, Tim and great pictures, Mary.

kscobie8 11-23-2011 05:36 PM

Simply amazing work! When I've got the money and it comes time for me to commission a build, it will be a McKnight. When I've got the money...

Hey, Tim, you're still gonna be building in 30-40 years, right? :)

Bel isi,
-kyle

rlouie 11-23-2011 05:55 PM

Tim and Mary's build threads are unbelievably good...it's as if we're in the shop with them!!!!! great work folks!!!!!!!!

bk314159 11-24-2011 01:38 PM

Billy Boy, naccoachbob & rlouie I totally agree!

Too funny Neil.

Kyle - you should inquire about the lay-away plan.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I received 69 new photos from Mary and Tim and I plan to post most of them. As I did last time, I'm going to hand the microphone back to Mary - after all she and Tim are the ones with all the insight. Take it Mary ...

Tim pulls out the sanding bar:

He runs it back and forth in fast motion:

This is where the orbital sander comes into play to fix the problem:

The fret slots get cleaned out:

Fret wire is rough cut:

Clipped ends of rough cut comes first:
