Martin Crosby, Stills and Nash Gerry Tolman Memorial Guitar

This guitar has to have the longest name ever.

Anyway, I thought I would pass along more of my impressions about this guitar.

Here is the poop:
Engelman top (old Matrin amber colored finish)
IRW b/s Very close grained and beautifully matched.
Ebony board and a really cool Ebony piramid bridge-not a typical Martin bridge.
1 3/4 nut-great for fingerstyle.
Cool inlays including the broken arrow icon of Neil Young. Martin and Co. is in Abalone
Bound Ebony glossy headstock and fretboard
MOP and Abalone inlayed headstock
Geib vintage style case. Nice soft leather handle.

All these things are nice...but it is the sound that has me totally blown away. Evertime I play this guitar I discover a new timbre. It is truly wonderful. Rich with overtones and some of the best sustain I have heard on a dreadnaught. I have not had a guitar I have loved more than this Martin, including all the handmades I have owned through the years. (All of them wonderful)
This is funny coming from a guy who never really thought of making Martin Guitars permanent fixtures at his house.

Action/setup: Perfect for my style of playing
Nut width: Perfect, to me anyway
Tone: Strong warm bass, excellent mids, and highs that are stellar.
Versatility: The CSN is wonderful for flatpicking, and even better for fingerstyle. What is the most thrilling to me is that I can feel and hear the bass when playing with my fingers and the mids and highs are very articulate. I think it is the Engelman that allows this to happen. By the way, the top grain is so tight that you have to look hard to find it.

I have mentioned before that I do not have a thing for Crosby, Stills and Nash. I like their music very much, but I am not a die-hard fan. I never heard of Gerry Tolman, although he must have a great manager and a good person to have this guitar build as a tribute. I also said, that even if this guitar had a picture of Santa Claus inside it, I would have walked out of the store with it. Mine is No. 137 in the run. Martin has not yet committed to any specific number of this limited edition.

One really cool thing is the inlayed CSN logo on the headstock. It was designed by Saturday Night Live star, Phil Hartman who sadly was murdered by his deranged wife.

Well enough...if you have a chance to play one of these instruments, give it a whirl. See if you have the same feelings about it that I do. I would be interested to hear other opinions. I also would be interested to hear if the the other 136 of these guitars are as nice as the one I have. Here is a link to some pictures.
