What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self if you Could Time Travel?
 

Getting pretty deep with this question fellas. I'm a young guy myself at just 22. I'm curious as to what advice you would give yourself if you could go back in time. Can be music or non-music related

Simple: formally study the guitar--- via lessons or a school.

Stick with the guitar lessons and start sooner. I took lessons for a month or so when I first bought my guitar, then quit and waited 25 years to try it again. I would also have told myself to take music classes in college and chase my dream. I was always writing lyrics but could not notate music. While I had played saxophone in high school, I really didn't know anything about music theory. (I still don't know much and wish I did.)

Not music related but, don't even think of marriage until you're in your mid forties!

Get a STEM degree (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) and do music part time. Wear hearing protection at loud music venues. Skip your first marriage and go straight to your second...

Find a good instructor and stick with it. Don't play for a while and give up. You will probably get discouraged. Don't let it get to you.

That joke is so old when I heard it, it was a beatnick standing on the corner.

I don't know exactly, but it would be something about getting together with like-minded musicians, not getting distracted and led in a direction that doesn't fit your personality or lifestyle by characters with big egos, after watching YouTubes by McCartney and Denny Laine ...if you want to start a band ,do it with people who have enough business sense to get the work done while still maintaining a fun atmosphere.

OKAY, gotta go eat tacos now.

I was in a trio in college (a la Crosby, Stills & Nash). We won a pretty competitive contest on campus and immediately started to get gigs. We'd pack the local college bars and started to open for some bands in a pretty big club in Portland during the summer (and made some decent money doing so). But we never considered getting serious at it as we all got real jobs and went our separate ways once we graduated.

Looking back now (30 years later) we realize we had something great and we all regret not giving it a go (for at least a couple of years) and seeing where it may've taken us.

I wish I'd bought my birth-year guitar (1951) back when it was affordable. When I was 22 it would have just been a 22 year old used guitar...now they go for vintage prices...who knew?

Floss. Maybe try rowing instead of football.

Otherwise, I have no regrets, and I've learned more from my mistakes than from my successes. I really wouldn't want to change anything.
