Dating my seagull

Hi everyone. I picked up a used seagull model number 6 at my local music go round today. From the looks of it it's been around for some time, and man it is just an awesome guitar. Is the model number 6 the same as the s6? It's printed as (6). Also, how do I date this guitar? I've searched the Seagull website and can't seem to find anything about dating and serial numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Did I mention that I love this guitar??? I have this one and an old Fender F-210LH (another incredible guitar!!!! At least mine is anyway. Had a bone nut and saddle installed and that bird sings!) Anyway, what a pleasant suprise about the seagull, and for xxx bones, not too bad. Thanks all.

sorry I couldn't resist...................by the way I own a S6 too and what you have there ksounds is a fine guitar.........when you get ready to change strings try a set of Dean Markley Alchemy's custom lights 12-54.....they sound great on my Seagull

I'm with you rlouie......My first thought was:" Why would you want to date your guitar?" Aren't there enough single women around? That is actually the clean version!!;):

Email the company, they will tell you the month and the year. It may take a while, but I did that with a Seagull S12 that I had.

I have not seen an online source for this info.

Look at the serial number - the first 2 numbers should tell you the year it was built. Also, if there are any letters in the serial number, it's a factory second. If not, it still could be, but chances are it's not. Seconds are usually something cosmetic that, if you didn't know it was there and where to look, you wouldn't notice it. IMHO, these are the best bang for the buck guitars available today.

Thanks for the link poorbs. I went to my sent mail and found the serial number. It's serial #40956, which predates the new dating system according to the link you posted, which means it's older than 1993. I knew it was older as the top is pretty banged up, which is what immediately attracted me to the guitar in the first place. It has soo much character to it lookwise. You can tell the previous owner (owners?) really enjoyed playing it as it is worn in quite well. The sides and back are in excellent shape, as well as the neck (I love the width of the neck by the way). As soon as I picked it up and started playing it just felt "right". The sound is astonishingly full, woody and warm. As I said, it is listed as model "6" which also predates the current model system. I'm sure the s6 is based on this particular model. From the looks of it I would say it came from the mid to later 80's, which means the guitar has been given a chance to age, and what a nice job it's done. Personally I think it sounds way beyond the price I paid for it....like in another galaxy beyond.

Here's a link to Godin guitar forum on how to figure out the serial numbers for Seagulls and other Godin guitars. I would have just copied and pasted it, but wasn't sure if that was completely cool... so here's the link instead.

I just bought a S6 Slim myself, and I'm loving it!

You'll have to excuse us, we're guitarists! :ha: Glad you scored one of those all-too-rare great buys, a guitar that does what you want it to do for a lot less money than you might have expected. The details are different, but the vast majority of us here are looking for the same kind of thing!

Welcome to AGF family, ksounds - you're among friends here, even if we are a bit goofy sometimes.

In order to give the partner a good impression, the profile is very important.
