Live recording with Zoom H1

I want to get a decent recording of a solo acoustic performance.

It's in a small rehearsal space (rough size 30 x 40 ft) .

Singer songwriter, Acoustic Guitar and Vocals ..
Playing though a Bose L1 Compact PA,
Gibson J-45 Guitar with active pickup,
Vocals thru a SM58 Mic.

I will have a Zoom H1 Recorder.

Suggestions on where to place the Recorder to get best recording?
Plus any tips on settings... Lo cut ( on or off), Auto or Manual levels?

Look forward to any comments and advice!

To get the "best recording" place the H1 about a foot in front of you, positioning it for the best balance between instrument and vocal. Oh, and turn off the PA.

If you want it to accurately reflect what your PA sounds like then pull the Bose columns fairly close together and position the H1 in front, a foot or two in front of the columns.

If you can figure out a line out of your PA you can also use the line in of the H1 directly.

In any of these scenarios it would be a vast improvement in possible results to pull the WAV file into an audio editor and do the final tweaking, including normalizing and topping / tailing your tracks.

All rooms vary - experiment on placement area's of the mics and where in regards to the sound hole it sound's best and the axis of the mics .

Good luck
