Eastman Pagelli PG2

Well, after a LONG wait, my Eastman Pagelli showed up today. The specs on this guitar are:

Hand carved spruce top (X braced)
Hand carved flame maple b/s
3 piece maple neck
Rosewood binding
Ebony pickguard, bridge, tailpiece, peghead overlay, fingerboard
Kent Armstrong pickup (floating)
Gotoh tuners
25" scale
1.75" nut
Strung with D'Addario Roundwounds 12-52

These guitars are made as acoustic archtops. This guitar sounds absolutely great, very balanced with more richness than you get out of a lot of archtops. The guitar is also quite loud when played with a pick. Plugged in, it has the typical mid jazz guitar tone, however not muddy (probably the rounds). I pluggged it in to an Aura Spectrum this afternoon and messed with some settings (ended up with Jumbo #13, 50% blend) and the thing sounds incredible. So, enough of that, here are the photos.

Jimmy

PS. Yes, I know it's left handed, according to the Eastman rep, this will be, quite possibly, the only lefty Pagelli Eastman makes (it's not just the guitar, the case is shaped like the guitar and had to be made left handed also).

Just beautiful. Art meets design, which then in turn produces more art....

....and it's totally cool about possibly being the only left handed one

Thanks for posting the pics,

Wow. Love the shape. That ebony pickguard and tail piece are very cool. Sort of a Bauhaus aesthetic.

Dang I like the looks of that thing! I'm curious to know how it compares acoustic tone wise to one the the Eastman 16 archtops like an 810. Have you had a chance to play both?

Congrats on one really cool guitar!

Congrats on one really cool guitar!

The only Eastman I've ever been around was a friends 910. This guitar compares favorably with that and also with my Comins Classic (now sold). The Comins was louder and a little bassier than this Pagelli (the Comins is an 18" body), this is the only Eastman I've ever played (there's not a whole bunch of lefty archtops sitting around in music stores!).

I do as well. Beyond the look, I stayed up until 2:00am playing the guitar last night. It is a real joy to play and tonally, it is outstanding.

Lefty Pagelli

Hey Jimmy, when did you order that lefty Pagelli? I ordered one in January 2009. I am curious as to how long yours took to make... It is really cool. I got the PG1..

Hi again, what is the thickness of the body on the Pagelli? Is it 3"? Thanks.

To answer the first question, yes, it is 3 inches at the sides. The second question, my guitar was ordered a couple of years ago, my advice would be to stay on top of your order with Eastman, my dealer said that Eastman didn't seem very charged up to make another lefty. Good luck.

BTW, did Eastman accept your order and say they would make it? I hope you get it, the PG1's are so cool looking (actually cooler looking than a PG2, IMO).

Hi Jimmy, thanks for the response. Yes, Eastman took the order back in December and I am pretty sure 3 or 4 lefty Pagelli's were ordered were ordered at the time. I ordered a PG1 (the violin finish) with all ebony trim and ebony pickguard/bridge/tailpiece, not the maple. The maple just looks too busy to me. I am pretty sure the real Pagelli's and the first Eastman Pagelli I saw had the ebony appointments. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool!!

I played an Eastman EIR/spruce OOO-sized acoustic yesterday - and it surprised the heck outta me! For the $350 my buddy paid for it new, it's just an amazing little guitar! Great workmanship, set-up, and tone.

That's a sweet looking guitar for sure!

I know this is electric, but my Eastman is incredible, it has some kind of depth to its sound that I havent heard anywhere else, notes "bloom" from it, and the bridge pickup stays fat despite the bite.

A friend has a Gretsch rancher "acoustic"....it's a flattop jumbo with no pickup, but my small body semi hollow is louder than it unplugged....not kidding. I think it's because of the carved top and back.
Mine has Gotoh hardware too, which was a nice suprise!
