Guitar Drum- New Invention
 

I am the inventor of the Guitar Drum, it is an attachable accessory for an acoustic guitar that allows you to get similar sounds to that of a cajon. I am planning on releasing them on Kickstarter September 15th. Currently I have three different woods that I am offering; Koa, Mango, and Poplar. Wow, pretty cool idea. Great playing in the videos as well. Good luck with this, seeing as I play craviola shaped guitars it looks like it wont fit. I might have to get a regular shaped guitar :)

Doesn't affixing this to the soundboard affect the guitar's sound?

How does this work to add more cajon drum-sound over just tapping the soundboard?

Fazool, Thanks for your question. I've been playing with this invention for a while now and I haven't noticed a difference in the guitar sound. What I've done to have more ranges of sounds is I took the design of a cajon and I revamped it and shrunk it down so that there is a rattle mechanism that will give you similar sounds. This is a cool idea - but I feel like the percussive sounds being produced by the Guitar Drum are already achievable using various parts of the guitar itself. I'd love to see a smaller scratch plate version to put on the upper bout, next to to the pick guard.

Ah, I understand now - it has the cajon snare-type thingy. That's cool.

Does it mount on the edges like a Pearse armrest or does it stick to the soundboard?

I'm with you on this one. Not sure how it's any different than tapping on your guitar ?

If it attaches with sticky stuff, that's a major problem, and there's no way it can't affect the sound.

Yeah, I get the same snare sounds, which I think is the main attraction here, by either slapping the top strings with my thumb or by using my fingertips and slapping the strings on the higher registers of the neck.

I appreciate the comments and questions that are coming from you guys. I do agree that you can a snare sound from your strings and I've been doing it myself for years. But there are certain limitations that come from just using your strings. For example if you're trying to play a punk rhythm and have a back beat, that's going to be extremely difficult. There are other scenarios as well that I've found. I'll be making more videos in the future so that it can be demoed more. I do agree that you can get a lot of sounds by just using various parts of the guitar but this makes more sounds accessible in a smaller area.
