Charlottesville, Va. condolences
A handful of AGF regulars have connections to Charlottesville, Va. I'm a former C'ville resident and a grad of UVa.
My thoughts are with the people hurt today when a car plowed into a crowd. One person has died, many are injured. I was sitting in a coffeehouse with another C'ville resident when the news appeared on the screen. Hatred is disheartening when it happens anywhere, but something about this weekend's news has me shaken. |
My sympathies are with those who were hurt or killed in this cowardly attack.

I'm very sad on many different levels that these terrible things have occurred, let alone in my hometown. I took the mayor's advice to avoid the downtown area altogether....
|
Yes, truly sad. I wish our friends in Charlottesville peace.

I lived in C'ville for 5 years. Sad indeed. Hard to imagine the news that has come from C'ville in the past couple of years.

Stop the politics.
|
This isn't politics. This was an act of terrorism.
|
Wow, just wow.
|
Thanks to all for your kind, thoughtful words....

Spent two years in Charlottesville as a post doc...great town...hate to see this there or anywhere...

What occurred yesterday was clearly a combination of forces, the majority of which are off-limits for AGF discussion. I hope that I'm not stepping over the line when I say that the thing that probably bothers me most was that my normally peaceful and mellow hometown was chosen, largely by outsiders, to stage this battle of opposing forces. What you've probably seen on the news is not what Charlottesville is all about, and I really resent the image that has been forced on us almost as much as I resent the violence and death that occurred.... |

I agree. I feel for the folks there watching this unfold in their backyards. It's not the Charlottesville we know. |
I don't understand the celebration of an odious cause. Unfortunately, the variation of the species means that some are not hot wired for that great moral equalizer; empathy.
