Jerry Reed

Layed me a nylon string away today. Wanting to learn how to play like Jerry Reed, or close anyway! Any help? DVD's, etc.? Thanks!

At least 2 really good books of Jerry Reed's arrangements:

"Heavy Neckin", by John Knowles, and "The Jerry Reed Collection" by Craig Dobbins. I don't know whether or not either are still in print.

Lots of transcriptions of tunes all over the internet.

If you haven't yet, check out http://www.misterguitar.us/forum/ and search for Jerry Reed, or just post and ask questions.

Enjoy the journey!

Best regards,
Tom

Buster Jones did a book and video series on Jerry Reed style picking. I kept intending to get this for myself but I just never did. I think Mr. Reed had a really keen sense of composition that just seemed to spill out of him effortlessly. I think you can find Buster’s book at Stephan Grossman’s Guitar workshop website.

I have experience with the Buster Jones Jerry Reed dvd, and I can say that and the tabs included are excellent.

John Knowles has transcribed a number of Jerry's tunes, and many are available in his Fingerstyle Quarterly magazines. He's not publishing those anymore, but the archives are available at his site. Lots and lots of good material in those (from Jerry and many others, including lots of jazz standards).

I highly recommend John Knowles arrangements!! I've been working on a number of them from his quarterly magazine. The accompanying CD is very valuable with his suggestions.

Know this post is rather old - but I thought I'd put in a word for the Craig Dobbins' books. Check out The Guitar Style of Jerry Reed. I have several of his excellent books and have never been disappointed.

The Dobbins book includes: Swingin' '69; Swarmin'; Stump Water; Nut Sundae; The Mad Russian; Jerry's Breakdown; Pickie, Pickie, Pickie; Two Timin'; Steeplechase Lane; Funky Junk; A Major Attempt At A Minor Thing; Seidina (First Born).

Thanks for the bump. Good resources I was not aware of.
