$300 was a lot more in '68 than it was in '85. Probably a pretty good deal then, and the '68 was probably a better guitar than a new one in '85.

An old no-name nylon acoustic that arrived with a #8 nail pounded into the bridge to keep it attached to the top. Soon after I got it the neck started to come loose. I let my youngest whack on it with a hammer but he didn't damage the back and sides so I made it into a planter where it held various greenery until it finally rotted back into the earth from which it came, which took about six years. That's the longest I've owned any single guitar.

Out of my current lineup I've owned my '58 Les Paul Historic for over a year now and I still have no intention of letting that one go or will ever likely let it go.

Funny to think on it. I’ve only ever bought one guitar new—it was some time in 76 or 77. I still have it—a Gurian Size 3 R. It doesn’t get much play right now—the tone is still stellar, but it ain’t easy to play the narrow board. Oddly, when I first played it, I had no such trouble, despite my being used to the standard Martin 1 11/16 board. I didn’t even notice the narrowness of the Gurian. Nor did I notice its very long scale.

Now a lot of guitars have come and gone. What was for a long time “my new guitar” has now been with me the longest. My 72 Les Paul came later that year. It’s still here, too.

Peace
Jimmy

1996 Yamaha CG110CE I traded a Martin DM for in 2003. It's the only guitar I own.

I bought the '97 Froggy in 1999. Next year I'll be able to have a glass of single malt with her. I've had the McAlister since 2001.

I did have my Guild F-50 from 1980 to 2003 - 23 years.

As my Dad always said: buy cheap, buy twice...

The longest I have owned a guitar was 20 years 1971-1991, a Gibson J50 I bought new. Current longest is a High Noon 12 string built for me in 2007 by Jamie Kinscherff.

I bought a Fender 12 string back in Jan 1989. First guitar I bought with my money and I still have it.

My uncle gave our family a Framus guitar around 1980 which was made in the 60s I believe. Probably something he brought back from Germany. That was the guitar I learned on. It's still at my dad's place and I always enjoy looking at it.

My 1974 Alvarez 5023, bought new for $150. It is retired now, frets are shot. It was my only guitar for 25 years and I played the heck out of it.

Still sounds like a million bucks, though.

Bought my Guild D-55 brand new in 1973 for probably no more than about $450 ~ $500. It was phenomenal then, and remains spectacular now!

1968 Martin 000-18

Bought it in 1975, while stationed in South Florida. It was in pretty rough shape. Got a neck set done and cleaned it up. My first Martin. it's aged better than I have.

I'll never part with it.

I've got two that I've had a long time, about 26 years, but I can't recall which came first. One is a '33-ish L-00, the other is a requinto that I bought new in Colombia while living there. It then got stored in my brother-in-law's hot attic for about 20 years, and just about fell apart. I repaired all the cracks, and open joints, reset the neck and gave it a rough refinish. If has sentimental value and sounds better then it looks.

I’m only 19, so not too long. But I can tell you my dad still has had his first guitar, an old Kay, since the late 1950’s... (my dad is old for having a 19 year old son) that thing looks like it’s been through hell and back..
