How does the Epiphone 3-way switch work?
This relates to my thread about my project ES-339.
I've never had a Gibson/Epiphone electric. When I put the 3-way in the middle position (neck/bridge) I get no sound at all unless the volume on both pickups are moved off 0. So: Bridge Vol 0, Neck Vol 10 - no sound Bridge Vol 10, Neck Vol 0 - no sound Bridge Vol > 0, Neck Vol > 0 - sound Is this the way it supposed to work? It is not what I would expect. Jack |
The ones on my Epiphone Dot are both on when you put the selector on the middle, but both volumes work, so one can be high, the other lower, but both work. Not sure why your works like that.

Never owned one but pretty sure the ones I've played are like that. If you are in the neck or bridge position with no volume on the other pickup the middle effectively becomes a kill position.

I have a bunch of Gibsons. That's how the two volume pots work--if either is all the way down to zero you won't get any sound in the middle position.

Thanks. It's not what I expected so it's good to know the guitar is working properly.

Jayhawk: You're correct, it's not what you would intuitively expect. It's not hard to rewire/solder these connections to change how things work. You can also add push/pull knobs to coil split the pickups as well, assuming they have the 4 conductor wiring. |
