[NAMM] Peavey debuts Composite Acoustics GX News
 

Peavey debuts the Composite Acoustics line of carbon fiber acoustic guitars.

Acquired by Peavey in 2010, Composite Acoustics introduced instruments built from composite materials featuring weave soundboards.

The nature of carbon fiber produces an instrument that stays in tune longer and never needs adjustment, the company says. By varying the carbon fiber material density in different areas of the body, Composite Acoustics instruments are supposedly able to achieve an "amazing, finely tuned tone that is consistent from instrument to instrument." Carbon fiber construction and heelless neck joints also allow for instrument shapes not possible with wood.

Peavey will debut three Composite Acoustic models at WNAMM: the GX the OX and the Cargo, . These models feature updates that topped the wish-lists of the Composite Acoustics players community. All models feature an updated and improved neck angle and improved bracing, and the flagship GX model is now offered with a redesigned, narrow-profile neck.

I loved my Cargo! The scale length messed with me. And I play short scale! Glad they grabbed the company and brought it back to life!

Most disappointing was the fact that Peavey/CA appears to NOT have new guitars being built right now. If the Cargo was new (unclear based on Ted's observations), they have not really corrected any perceived neck-angle issue.

This was particularly telling on the Cargo front (from Ted's review), "...but the saddle on both was down to nothing under the high E string just like on the models which tells me these might also be old stock."

...yet from the Peavey press-release, "All models feature an updated and improved neck angle and improved bracing..."

Many of us have been hoping for real news on this during NAMM.

Now it appears that we will have to wait to see what really hits the streets...and when this might happen, no one knows.

I read that they'll be available in mid-to-late February.

Yup... he was there working around the CA booth... not sure what all is up, but glad I got to meet him and he remembered me from my "Cargonian" cartoon thingys.. kinda cool.

Great Pics....It's great that they kept the CA name and Logo...Can't wait to try the new ones out...

Ellis is consulting with Peavey on the CA guitars......as for new ones it appears they have made some for the sals staff but did use the older ones for the show. Since they are coming out withthe new slim neck GX they had to be doing some new guitars and mold work or I would at least assume that. I hope the improvements are as they are reporting...and remember that is was a good product that needed some tweeking and quality control to make it terrific.

I think they are listening and it is very cool to see Harley personally taking the time to pump the line. To me the issue I have had with my Legacy is not neck angle but the width of the neck as you go up the neck. It looks like they have addressed the issue with the GX. Time will tell. These were great guitars nothing wrong with making them a little better.

Just to set the record straight.

I think it is a compliment that some people think the guitars at NAMM were not built by Peavey.

Here are the facts.

We had 22 guitars at the show. Many of of them were in a separate dedicated sound room in the back with the Trace Elliot amplifiers. Of those guitars there were 4 that CA had built, we brought them to show the differences in the new verses the old. The Legacy at the show was built by CA as well as the X that was on stage, and there was 1 cargo and 1 OX, the rest were built by Peavey in Meridian, Mississippi. I was hoping that new bronze finish was going to make it obvious that it was something we built. You will also notice in the picture above that the electronics are in the sound hole, something CA did not do on the GX. This was also intentional. Take a look closely at the pictures in the thread, you can also see a red rosette around the vertically hanging GX, also something CA did not do. The CA that Hartley is holding is the Bronze finish, it is clear when looking at the rosette, also the electronics are in the sound hole, again something CA did not do.

The new units also have an additional brace...something we were pointing out to the dealers that took the time to visit the booth and go over the new CAs. This brace is directly under the fretboard and can easily be felt and seen if you know were to look.

Lastly the neck angle was improved.

The first Peavey CA guitars are with our reps right now they took the ones directly from the show and have serial numbers 0000001 on them. I know of one store that has already requested the GX.

Ellis has been working with us, and will continue to work with us on current and future production, we even have some of the Louisiana team in Meridian.

Actually CA was building several dozen AGF limited OX guitars ordered by Ted of LA Guitar Sales with a red rosette. The guitars were to start shipping right at the time CA closed.

Glad to have some (if not all) of the mystery cleared up, and kudos for Mr. Poole to be posting here...even if it's a one-time thing.
