Best Acoustic Guitar Tab Books?
I am struggling to find good TAB books. Some have great song selections but poor tablature. Others have great TAB, 100 songs, but only a few that I want to play...
This one is really great: "Fingerpicking Beatles and Expanded Edition: 30 Songs Arranged for Solo Guitar in Standard Notation and Tab (Finger Style Guitar)" Can anyone name other books like this one? I have a beginner book, which is fun for sing a-longs with the kids: "Jumbo Easy Guitar Songbook" (Hal Leonard). They are tab'd but a bit too easy. I have the fantastic "Complete Country Blues Guitar Book" by Stefan Grossman (this comes with two CDs as well, and is an incredible value) but I am looking for pop tunes that are easily recognizable to play at a large family reunion this August. (I need lots of prep time) It is an older crowd who love Beatles, Dylan, etc...I am early Intermediate. Are there any good TAB books (not chord/sing along books) that anyone can recommend? Thanks so much! |
start your own music book, go to chordie and download the songs with tabs words etc. 3 hole punch and put in notebook.

Seamus,
Also check out Songsterr: http://www.songsterr.com/ Generally very high quality tabs, a midi playback interface, but subscription required to print. And Ultimate-Guitar.com http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ Here, you have to use the tab rating system to discover the better tabs, and that is greatly facilitated if you have an iphone and the ultimate-guitar app (which is really fantastic). Chordie is good too but I've found their tab collection to be limited in both scope and quality. JD |
i love the Ultimate-Guitar.com iPad-iPod app. I easily carry all my tabs with me. All I do is put my iPad on a music stand and I am instantly read to rock with all my previously downloaded tabs.

I pre-ordered it too!
"Fingerpicking Beatles" TAB is great. (I wish it had a few different songs, though...so I am excited about the new book from Juber) Are there any other books of this quality? I bought it in 2007 and it was over my head, but now I am going through it nicely (slowly, but getting there). It is difficult to find good TAB books that aren't too easy, or are well tab'd. |
Being also a fan of Don Ross and Andy Mckee, I go to their websites to download their tab (not free). They are not easy, and well gives a gratifying challenge. It's just the alternative tunings that is kinda hassle and breaks a few strings.
Tommy Emmanuel's songs are the ones I play most because they are mostly standard tuning or occassionally Drop D and G6 Tunings, and nothing else. I'm so looking forward to his tab book for "Little by Little" album. It will be gold. Yes some of the song tabs can be found online, but sometimes prefer the 'real deal'. ;) |
