This is awfully short notice, but as soon as I get back Sunday from my Sat. night Davenport, IA gig (Venus Envy), I will be the emcee at Bill's Blues, 1029 Davis St., Evanston, IL--first for the Lilfest Open Mic from 4-6:30 pm and then for the Sun. Night Folk Concert at 7, featuring mountain dulcimer ace, singer-songwriter extraordinaire and all around stand-up guy (no, really, he plays dulcimer standing up, plus guitar) DAVID MASSENGILL. Running sound (as always) is the AGF's own "UncleDizzy61" (yo, Norm!). The regular impresaria for this will be out of town and she asked me to fill in for her--knowing that I've shared festival workshop stages with David and that he is one of my musical heroes. For those unfamiliar with him, he hails from the NC/VA/TN (Bristol/Kingsport/Blowing Rock) tri-state "corner;" he wrote "On the Road to Fairfax County" (covered by the Roches and Joan Baez), "Orphan Train," and "My Name Joe;" and played Phil Ochs' "The Crucifixion" on a recent Ochs tribute double CD. He is a master entertainer and songwriter.

Where: BILL'S BLUES BAR, 1029 Davis St., Evanston, IL
When & What: Sun. Apr. 29--Open Mic 4-6:30 (sign up early--you get 15 minutes and Bill often hires from it); David Massengill concert (2 sets) 7-9:30 pm.
How Much: $15
Other stuff: All ages, nonsmoking till 10pm. Hecky's BBQ available for delivery, great drinks, sound, sightlines, intimate atmosphere, ample street parking, 2 blocks from CTA (Purple) and Metra (North) commuter trains.

I'll be hosting, working the door, and maybe kicking things off with a song or two depending on time. Mostly I'll be sitting there watching David knock my socks off. Hope you will too!
