Anyone who is in the Dallas area, or who might be passing through over the summer, might be interested in the Garland Square Jam. Garland is a suburb on the Northeast side of Dallas, and this is an outdoor jam on 'the downtown square.' It is held every Saturday night from April through October (and most other Saturday nights when it's warm enough) starting at 7:00 and going until the last person leaves ... generally midnight or later. Depending on who you ask, this has been going on for somewhere between 30 and 50 years!
You can generally find somewhere between 40 and 80 pickers, and at least that many listeners, divided up into several groups ... if you don't like one, just stroll down to the next one. Mostly bluegrass, but there is one group that stays pretty much with old country and gospel ... well, it's not ALL old ... every now and then someone sings some of the new songs from the 70's and 80's!
