It's not to soon to post the link: http://www.mayvillebluegrassfestival.com. Sierra Hull, Ryan Holladay, John McCuen and family, and many MANY others. Enjoy a weekend at about $17.00 for a two day pass! Clay Hess is there, and a flatpickin' contest; Peter Rowan and crew; the Doerfels; small--lots of sitting space; Chautauqua Lake in the background. You'll love it! So "cheap," and absolutely PREMIER national talent. It's worth the drive or flight. Really!
If this isn't the best two days worth of acoustic and Bluegrass, I'll personally refund your tix price. It is simply amazing!!!

What part of Texas is that in???
Looked at the link ... lots of good people, but NOBODY will put on a better show than Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper featuring Audie Blaylock. I saw them 3 weeks ago and they were amazing. If there is a better fiddle player than Michael Cleveland, I don't know who it is, and Audie Blaylock's vocals surrounded by three and four part harmonies just made me wish they were playing for two hours instead of one.

Mayville is in New York.
Michael Cleveland gets the closest tone to Randy Howard as I've ever heard, a nice 'woody' tone. I know Michael was a fan of Randy'd too, as I was, and listened to him a lot. I have a picture here somewhere of myself in a jam session a few years ago, with Michael and a fella named Chris Thile, they were around 13 or 14 at the time, and great pickers even then.

I think Chris Thile was here for the Festival a couple of years back--maybe when Chris Hillman, formerly of the Byrds, also was a headliner. That's one I missed. My Office staff all gave me two full-weekend passes, and a really nice, new, black soft leather guitar strap for Christmas. I'm hoping to skip church that Sunday, and take part in the Sunday's "Bluegrass/Gospel Worship Service." Allen--last year a young man you knew won the flatpicking contest (I'm sorry I forgot his name), but what a nice kid! He wondered how I "knew" you, and said we'd never met in person, but on AGF. He kinda ended up hanging around with me during the judging (one judge was Clay Hess). I told him "you won, dude!" and he did. Will he be back do you know?
Oh yeah: get a map of NY State. Go west (young man!) almost all the way over to Erie, Pa. About 30 miles inside NY State east of Erie, you'll see Chautauqua Lake, and Jamestown. Mayville is at the top of the lake....Chautauqua Institution on the west side, and Jamestown at the southern most tip. God's country folks.

That would be Adam Wright, who is also a former National Flatpicking champion as well (2001). Adam is a great guy, and a great picker too. I don't know if he's headed back up or not though. I got an email from him just last week, but no mention of Mayville. Btw, I think he has put the guitar that he won there last year up for sale. I understand it's pretty good one.

Pretty sure it was a Larrivee "D-60" (?maybe?). Jim Holler of Trinity Guitars here in Jamestown is an authorized Martin and Larrivee dealer, and Larrivee has in the past sent a muckity-muck Rep to the Festival. They also donate the guitar. I think the second prize was a Martin 16 series something. Martin doesn't need to send a "Rep", as about 95% of the groups advertize them for free!
Thanks for the refresher on Adam. He is a really soft-spoken, humble young fella who can wallop the living he%% out of a guitar! If I had 1/10th of his talent, I'd go to Open Mic nights. I'm really looking forward to seeing Sierra Hull and Ryan Holladay...I've seen some mando work when she was just a kid. Unbelievable. Now, she's a fine looking young lady who also can whomp a guitar or mando. McEuen should be great too. Man, what a lineup!
