Just heard about this show yesterday--if I go it'll only be in the afternoon because I committed to do a house concert up in Mundelein (other end of Chicagoland) that night (insert string of frustrated expletives here):
7/28, all day, Toyota Park, 71st St. & Harlem Ave., Bridgeview/Summit, IL (just a mile s. of my husband's office!)
Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, BB King, Robert Randolph, Stevie Winwood (guess *someone* has to play keys), Sheryl Crow and others--for the benefit of Clapton's Crossroads Foundation.
At least I got my Police tickets (July 5 Wrigley Field show).

Oh, man. Here we go:
CURRENT ARTIST LISTING CONFIRMED
Jeff Beck
Doyle Bramhall II
Eric Clapton
Robert Cray
Sheryl Crow
Vince Gill
Buddy Guy
BB King
Alison Krauss and Union Station
Sonny Landreth
Albert Lee
Los Lobos
John McLaughlin
Willie Nelson
Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Hubert Sumlin
The Derek Trucks Band
Jimmie Vaughan
Steve Winwood
Starts at noon, ninety bucks. Toyota Park is the new soccer stadium built fot the Chicago Fire. Would really rankle me to miss the headliners in order to get to Mundelein on time, but to be able so see even half that lineup would be worth it. Tickets go on sale Saturday morning at 10.
Only the hardest of hardcore folkies will be coming to the house concert instead--and who knows, maybe even the hosts would have preferred to go to the guitar festival. Really rankles me to have to miss an amazing event in favor of performing to a living room audience that probably won't outnumber the band....
If this were a solo gig, I'd be e-mailing the host asking to reschedule, explaining the negative impact the festival would have on attendance. But I'm just one of three in the band, and the other two are NOT into any popular music after 1976....

Oh boy... Clapton, Alison Krauss, BB King... so many of my favorites! I wonder if I'll be able to squeeze out time to go?

Well, I'm attending as much of it as I can (and hoping against hope we can move the house concert to Fri. night or Sunday--if not, I will be arriving in Mundelein separately from the rest of the band, dropping my gear off the night before if need be).

New Orleans? A nice consolation prize. Now that the air down there is safer, I was hoping to make one weekend of Jazzfest this year, but I'm touring in WI and IA both weekends.

I'm thinking about coming....fly in, overnight, and fly home on Sunday...any hotel recommendations? I don't really want to rent a car, could cab to a nearby hotel and walk?
As an EC access member, I can get two tickets starting this morning at 0900 for the normal price...gotta decide about it soon.

CS- Steve Winwood plays a mean guitar girl, not only that, but pretty much every other instrument as well. On his solo work "Arc of the Diver" he plays EVERYTHING!
BTW- There is a DVD of a past "Crossroads" Festival from TX that is great. A good primer for the show you will see in July. I will be in the OBX of NC till the 28th, otherwise I'd be there with bells on!!!!

Just two miles northeast, just south of Midway Airport on S. Cicero Ave. is a business-hotel court with (IIRC) a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and either a Courtyard or Baymont by Marriott. Betcha they have a courtesy shuttle whose driver could be bribed to take you to & from the concert. (Cabs are very hard to get on the S. Side except at Midway Airport). Alternatively, there are probably private limo services that will be doing lots of business that day (my husband has a patient who hires out his Town Car and took my son out to the Tweeter Center for Jamboree one year). The CTA and PACE lines both run regular buses down both Cicero and Harlem Aves. SE of the park, at 95th and Cicero is the Hilton of Oak Lawn--a little more upscale and pricy than the Midway hotel court, but still nowhere near as expensive as in the Loop. It too has a shuttle.

dang....got shut out Sat. morning by TicketBas**rd due to heavy traffic. Think I will publicize our house concert by saying "See the SASS! Trio and save $95" (the diff. bet. our suggested dontation and the price of the Crossroads fest plus parking). I could also mention our munchies and drinks are free, too (as opposed to $7 beers and $5 hot dogs at Toyota Park), and the easy access to the artists.....:D
