I already posted in the other area, but I think that is the satinwood for my 314c.

This is great isn't it!

I posted on the other thread too, but what the heck. I think I see my maple set peeking out from behind some of the prettier wood. :) Thanks to Jonathan Forstot and our shepherd, John Leonard!

Who's Ziricote is that? I can't tell if it's mine or MichaelW's. I've been able to make out the 8xx-LTD, so it's either my 854-LTD or Michael's 814-LTD. I don't have a picture of my wood! That would settle it. Does anyone have a picture of Michael's?

JR, I think that's your ziricote. As I recall, David's didn't have the sapwood down the middle.

Have we heard from W5BLT? That might be his ziricote set on top! I seem to recall that he had picked a nice set. (then again, all of them were nice) Hmmm. Does that mean mine is underneath? His GA, mine Jumbo.......?! Ha ha ha -- wishful thinking.

The satinwood back is mine! Ohhhhhhhh tooooo coooool!

Keep the pics coming! This is so exciting.......

No, my Ziricote didn't have sapwood come to think of it. That's got to be either W5BLT's or MichaelW's. They ordered similar guitars. Michael works at Taylor now. He should know! Hey, Michael... are you there? :)

Besides, my Ziricote was in a really rough state like much of the cocobolo. I wouldn't be surprised if it's in with that batch of wood because it needs to be worked over a good bit.

I wonder if my redwood top is in that stack. I know they had to glue a bunch of them together...there seemed to be a few that were already glued, and the rest of the stack was still unglued.

Wish I'd taken more pics also, but at least I've got a framed one of me and Bob holding my wood. It hangs on my wall in the office here.

I initially thought the ziricote set was trombone's. It's definitely not mine, and I doubt it's JR's. Bob's?

Well since y'all are disowning that set of Ziricote, I'll take it!!!:)

Can't believe I really didn't take a closer look at that stuff when I was there. Musta had case of "Cocobolo Fever"!!!!

Oh that's right - my Cocobolo probably is one of the sets that need processing....well, I guess I won't be seeing her for awhile:(

I'm pretty sure that the Ziricote you see is Bob (W5BLT's) guitar. He's the only one that had a set of that wood with sapwood running up the legth of the back. Simply BEAUTIFUL!

Jonathan is out of the office until sometime next week, so no updates right now... But the good news is that Larry Clark has finished the TaylorStock video and it's being duplicated as we speak. It should arrive on Friday and they'll begin shipping them out on Monday!

When you say the cocobolo is in a "rough" state, what exactly do you mean? Is it a lower grade of cocobolo? Mine isn't a Taylorstock guitar but it is one of the new limiteds and I have visions of beautiful cocobolo wood much like I've seen on the 700 ltds last year and the Taylorstock 800 ltds that I've seen pics of recently....

When I saw the word "rough"...my heart sank a bit...

Take heart! The cocobolo that was ready to cut into a guitar shape had already been planed down to a thin sheet and the 3 pieces of the back glued together.

The cocobolo that I selected for my TS 810-LTD was much thicker (about 3 times thicker?) than it will be after being planed and had not been joined. My understanding is that the wood needs to be cured before being planed to the proper thickness to be made into a guitar.

Here's the good part (for you). This applies pretty much ONLY to the Master Grade wood (or near Master Grade, like mine) for the TS guitars and not to the standard cocobolo for the LTD series. BTW, if the LTDs we saw at Taylor are any indication, they will be gorgeous. The Master Grade stuff is generally reserved for custom guitars and is usually much much more expensive than what is used in the production guitars.

I am trying so hard NOT to make you think that the cocobolo for the 8xx-LTDs is some "low grade" stuff. It isn't. It's really beautiful. Taylor just selects and puts aside the truly outstanding ("Master Grade") wood for their really expensive guitars.

Hope that helps!

JR meant that the wood wasn't ready to be made into guitars ... it hadn't been kiln dried and stabilized in the wood room.
