Even though everyone says it's an easy job...

...if you do it wrong, and split the heel $25 for a luthier to do it would have seemed like such good value!

Same here. I originally asked the store where I purchased it to put one on for me, and they placed it on the back of the heel. I never got used to it there, so
I eventually just downloaded a drawing from the manufacturer's website (Seagull, in my case) showing where the bolts were and took it to a good repairman to relocate it.

Yes, it's very easy enough to do by yourself, but if you hit a bolt and screw up the guitar, it's your problem.

IMHO, the best place to put it would be on the treble side of the heal, though that might be difficult to do it on a Gibson. Take it down to your favorite guitar tech and have him/her do it...I've never paid more than $5 and I doubt anyone would charge more than $10.

Thanks guys. It's a Gibson so I don't think there are any bolts there to hit. Right? I don't think it's a bolt on neck like a taylor.

Johnny, I had a strap button put on my SWD by a certified Gibson repairman, If you do it yourself and you %#@& it up, that may void your warranty.....

Yeah. Maybe I'll have someone do it and not take chances. Thanks for your advice.

I'd go back to whichever shop you purchased your guitar from. In my case, I've had strap buttons installed by the technician on three of my guitars free of charge. At first, it was $5, then they said "just pay for the button", then "...aw heck, the buttons are only $2.85, so 'no charge'..."

On the bottom of the heel is the wrong place for a button, especially if it is a dovetail neck. Pay a few bucks and let a pro do it or it could cost you a LOT of grief.

Along with "Louie's" excellent demonstration site, here's another one to maybe answer any other possible questions:

Good Luck....have fun!
