Just wondering if any folks have interest in getting together once a month or so for a song circle or something like that. It would be a great opportunity for folks to play, share and learn on a regular basis. I'm in Sebastian and have asked all the local stores about this w/o any results. Interesting, I saw at least 40 people attended a Taylor sponsored clinic by Wayne Johnson Wednesday night at Florida Discount Music in Melborne. So, you folks are around. Let me know.

Mike, I'm up in New Smyrna and TBondo is on Merritt Island.
I would think we might be able to set up an informal get togethe once in a while some where down that way. It's an hour for me to M I and all my grandkids are down that way, so I make the trip pretty often.

Let's see what we can work out. I'm always up for getting together with people that can actually play to try and learn something.

Excellent. That sounds good to me. Lets try to arrange a date 2-4 weeks out. I can make the drive up or you folks are welcome at my house. Send me a e-mail @ drrufftuff@bellsouth.net

I'm down in the Melbourne area 3 to 5 times a year, so I'll keep an eye out on when you guys are getting together. My son is down there and he has a 210, so I can always borrow that if I don't bring my own down.

Mike,
I'll talk to Tom and see what might work. Better shoot more for the 4 weks out though. Long story here but I won't be "available" a lot for the next couple weeks.
Phil, if we can work it out where you are around for one of the pick in's
you don't worry about a geetar. I got ya covered on that.

I was gonna reply but I see ricks mentioned people that can actually play, so that leaves me out :D

No hurrycanes this year; I am actually sorta cught up at w*rk for once this fall, so I have some free weekends... I'm keeping an eye out, might just crash the mid-FL party ;)

mike o,

I believe there's a fairly large folk scene in Orlando... acoustic players in the various styles. I've met a few of those folks at Suwannee. I can do some digging, I think they have a webpage or something. I know it's a haul from Sebastian, but it might be worth a try... I'll see what I can find.

Hey There Mike,
I've been thinking the same thing after reading the song circle threads on APM. It would be cool to get together with some like minded players on a fairly regular basis. I've been considering checking into the broward folk club but haven't quite got around to it yet. If any of you guys ever make it down a couple of hours further south & want to get together for some golf & guitars let me know. We also have a new fine acoustics store here in Hollywood-
Glades Guitars which is owned by my friend Steve Wildey, just add a .com to the name if you want to check out his site.
Good luck with your circle
Mark

I'm all the way down in Miami, (and rather surprised nobody else in the AGF seems to be in close proximity), but I could get away a few times a year to mid Florida. Keep me in mind when you need someone who can't play worth squat and are afraid you won't have someone to make fun of! I can play that role pretty well.

Ok . Beach Bob - Stratokatsu - Mark. You're all in the same area! Maybe I need to visit So Fla some time?

Mark B, I did get inspired by the same threads.

Beach Bob, Let me know if you find a contact over in Orlando.

Don't worry about your playing level. This is for fun and learning from one another.

mike o, I did a little hunting... there is a folk open mic on Tuesdays at Reilly's Lantern Pub, it's on Vineland around the Universal Studios area... one of those locals joints stuck in a strip plaza in the middle of tourista land... I'm sure it's not convenient for you, being a school night and all, & the distance from Sebastian... but I've met one of their regular performers, Mama Carrie: big girl, big voice, lil mandolin :) She's good. I may check the place out over Turkey weekend, I'm gonna be doing the ORL tourista thing that weekend...

I live in the Orlando area. I'd be interested in getting together with other acoustic guitar players on occasion.

I'll keep monitoring this thread for future developments.

Just thought I would chime in on a Mid FL gathering since everyone keeps mentioning Melbourne. I also would be interested in attending.

This is my first post to the AGF although I have been reading for over a month now. I really like the feel of this community.

Hope to see you soon!

I might be interested as well. RickS and I have gotten together a couple times now and he is a great player - maybe not "Martin Simpson" great but good enough to make a large percentage of the guitar playing population very jealous :)

If I have enough notice, it is possible that I might be able to arrange bringing one of my guitars (I'm a luthier) to the get-together. I am always looking for feedback.

Peace Out,
Simon

Any time we can work something out for a gathering I'm up for it.
East Central is fine with me, I drive to Merritt Island all the time.
Was just there Sat to pick with TBondo a bit and visit some grand kids.
So Melbourne is not a problem for me. Shoot, I drave to Atlanta to pick.

BTW, don't listen to Simon. He er, "exaggerates" a little bit.

I’m a little farther south, like Homestead. Not too far from Stratokatsu. I’m not much of a guitar player I practice a few hours a day just to hear the sound of my guitars. I would be able to get together once in a while but this time of the year is tough, things don’t settle down until we get back from the Alafia River Rendezvous on the 28th of January.

Maybe we could do smaller local get togethers then a few times a year assemble for a couple days at a central location. Anywhere near the beach and I could easily talk my wife into coming along.

I would love to meet up with Simon, I feel like I’m learning how to build guitars in a vacuum, I haven’t personally meet anyone who is interested in building guitars, though the guitar building community is strong and I do have phone and internet friends who are very helpful.

Please excuse me for just jumping right in without any introduction, I’m not exactly the kind of guy that lurks for awhile, never been accused of being introverted. I’ve played bass since I was 9 and violin at 7. I have never been out of a band for more than a few months since 1965.

Mike, welcome to the forum :D

Never been accused of being introverted? Sounds like my kind of people... I am a couple hours north of you... I do travel about the state, but never stay anywhere very long before returning home... perhaps we FL folks can schedule something after the holidays in the way of a guit-together... this thread sorta died over the last month. I am sure everyone is busy with the usual year-end stuff right now.

Hey Beach Bob, yeah, the time of year is crazy from Thanksgiving to after the rendezvous I’m busy.

I hope we can eventually get something going.

I’ve picked up or rather I was ambushed by an acoustic guitar while checking out some ABGs. Then about a month after that I came across a good deal on one that will work good at the rendezvous, a pre-1840 historical interpretation camp, a bunch of people bring guitars, fiddles, banjos, flutes and other instruments to the camp, the music is one of my favorite parts of it. This will be the first time in 20 years that I will have a steel string slot head with me.

Sounds cool... I have a coworker who has done those types of camps, dressing & acting as a Dan'l Boone sort. I think he's moved away from that & does weekend competition target shooting mostly nowadays. Years ago I caught a Civil War musical trio, they were very good, & did tunes from back then. They wore both Union and Confederate uniforms :D

pretty cool stuff... enjoy the jamboree.

Hello everyone,

Just noticed all the activity on the thread. Can we all start planning a date for mid - late January? I'm guessing a Saturday or Sunday works best.

Hey guys,
I don't have a calendar handy (translated that means I can't see one that's big enough to read from here), but let's see if we can shoot for somewhere in the area of the 16th to the 23rd. There is one full weekend in there.
My reasoning, Fitness1 will be here for a visit.
Some of the Fla members know Todd and it would be great if we could work it out while he's in town.
Just a thought.

I'm ready.....

it's about 18 degrees here and we already have about 5 inches on the ground.....I'm definitely looking forward to running on the beach at Daytona Shores, playing golf with Agent Bond and pickin' with Rick and whoever else wants to laugh at me.....

I just decided to check out the get togethers and sure enough, this thread reared it's head again.

I'll vouch for hushnel, (Mike), being good people, not to mention a great bass player and one whale of a craftsman. Wait until you see the bass he built himself, not to mention his leather work.

I have to check the calendar too, but I know we need to establish some venues throughout Florida that can be had for weekend get togethers. Once I went to Monroestock and realized how many people there were from Florida, it became obvious we were missing out.

Darn I'm sorry I missed that clinic at Florida Discount. I bet it was good!

Well if ya'll are gathering here in Melbourne I got no excuses not to show up this time.

If you have it at Wickham park I could darn near walk if I wanted to.

I'll keep an eye on the thread.
