I'll toot my own horn shortly, but this coming Sat. night 10/28, you can hear the SASS! Trio (Susan Urban, Kate Early & me) support two of the finest acts in traditional folk music today (including one of the best Celtic fingerpickers this side of Jim Tozier). Details:

"Ghosts, Vampires, Strong Women and Other Scary Stuff"
A pre-Halloween Concert Sat. 10/28/06. starting 8 pm, doors open 7:30 (club fills up FAST)
TWO-WAY STREET COFFEEHOUSE
1047 Curtiss St., Downers Grove (1st Cong. Church, across from library, 1 bl. from Metra commuter rail station)
All ages, no smoking, non-alcoholic beverages, chips, cookies
Sugg. donation $6
Appearing (in order, 40 min. sets):
ANDREW CALHOUN--Midwest's premier interpreter of traditional Scottish and British Isles ballads and songs, as well as an excellent and reflective songwriter, player, fine clear mellow tenor/baritone voice and wicked sense of humor.
SASS!TRIO--The AGF's own Sandy Andina joins her singing partner Susan Urban and C,N,& E's Kate Early for a set of spooky, silly, mellow and rockin' originals and covers (which include writers as diverse as Stanley Holloway, Warren Zevon and that perennial fave Trad Brit). Three-part harmonies, guitars, mt. dulcimer, tasty percussion (and Kate may throw in a belly dance or two). More jokes (twist our arms, why dontcha)
COOPER, NELSON & EARLY--Celtic fingerpicking whiz Phil Cooper (guitars, cittern, bouzouki) and his gentle tenor provide the perfect backdrop for the seamless harmonies of Margaret Nelson and Kate Early, who mine their huge repertoire of traditional American and British Isles songs and ballads for the perfect set of Halloween material. See why they've been a critically acclaimed and entertaining perennial N. American folk favorite since the early 1980s! (And the jokes keep on coming, of course)

Costumes optional but encouraged; clothing mandatory

And the SASS! Trio will hit N. WI--Downtown Grounds in Marinette, and MI's Upper Peninsula (da Yoo P., eh?)--Falling Rock Cafe in Munising and the Marquette UU congregation--next weekend 11/3, 4, 5; more about that Monday.

And finally--the CD release party for "SASS! Album One" is right around the corner: Sun. 11/12, 7-10 pm (free Hecky's BBQ & cake 6-7 pm, during the last hr. of the open mic which begins at 4pm--the club hires off it, hint, hint, bring your guitars), at BILL'S BLUES, 1019 Davis St. (just e. of the post ofc.), Evanston, IL. Cover $10 (PM, e-mail or call me for a $1 off discount coupon). No smoking, all ages. And you can stay later for the hybrid progressive/classic-rock sounds of "Conscripted" at 10 pm (I've run sound for these folks and they're fun).

Will nag ya some more in the next couple of weeks. But come help us haunt Downers Grove this Sat. first!
