Rather than polluting the MS VI thread, let's move into a new thread.....

April 20th was a "six months from now" SWAG, and is by no means a set date.....

so, those who would like to attend, let's work up a planning date (by replying to this thread)......April 15th is generally considered the end of the season in FL, so rates should be lower for hotels, etc.

We want to beat the heat (the June session this year was noted for its last minute dropouts ...too hot for some) and maximize the number of AGF attendees, so slap your oar in the water.

I don't recall what we've got going on that time of year (I think it's between contests) so we'll probably look at coming. Good excuse for me to work on something new between now and then.

FL AGF get together Spring 2007

April 23rd will be Ryan's 1st birthday, so it's very likely that the weekend of April 20-21 will be out for me.

The first weekend in April would be ideal for me, since my school has Spring Break from April 2-6. I could head down a bit early and visit my parents before heading over to the gathering.

I'm going to be "iffy" regradless of the date, though, so don't schedule dates around l'il ol' me. ;)

With this much notice, I am nearly infinitely flexible.

I may never meet the esteemed Mr Tozier... :(

My boy's spring break is the same time as Jim's (4/2 - 4/9), but we're planning on heading to Phoenix that week to see my sister's new baby, currently due in two months ... other than that, I'm in.

4/21/07 be a Saturday. Tom, whatever day it is, please arrange to have the weather just like it is today! :D
(wishing I was having 'class' outside today...)

TB- You know that Sharky will be there!

BTW- Clapton in Orlando on Fri. nite was magical bro. Played about 2 hours. Had as many as 4 guitarists on stage at one time (like Slowhand needs the help- give me a break). Played alot of bluesy renditions of old stuff. Did a 4 song acoustic set that included playing a 12 string (couldn't tell what kind- looked custom) on "Running on Faith" & "Nobody Knows You When You're Down & Out". Encore was a 15 min. version of "Crossroads". "Layla" was done electric. A great time was had by all. See u soon.;)

First weekend in Apr. is Easter weekend, and have an Indianapolis gig the second weekend. If the third weekend doesn't work for many people, I will try not to book anything the last weekend (4/27-29). March is still "season" and too expensive for most folks hotel-wise. Have nothing on for May yet...

Well, you know I am IN Tom.
Just a matter of the date and place now.
I'll remind you all that "spring break" down here also brings in a crowd of
college kids to a lot of the areas. So rooms could be at a premium for those wishing to make the trip in.
I know we will miss some people but that can't be avoided. No way to make it "right" for everyone.
So call me Agent 006.9.
We'll work something out.

Sharky, I was there as well.
Great show by EC and friends.

My April / May time is really bad looking, but if someone will offer me a job so I can quit the one I have, I'll be there.

A gathering of acoustic guitar fans from this forum. Read any of the MonroeStock VI threads to get a feel for the type of event. Food, fellowship, guitar playing/singing, etc...

I'd LOVE to go, great folks down in sunny Florida! I'm pretty flexible, I say that and yet I never make events anymore so...

"Don't argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Tim - That pretty well expresses my feelings and it is why I made the comment above about job offers. All burger flipping opportunities near AGF get togethers will be scrutinized seriously. :D

I feel you Dennis. I'm in the interview process right now looking at an opportunity elsewhere. It happens.

That line you used, which I used to have as part of my signature line, is from the comic strip Dilbert. Scott Adams is a genius. ;)

I wondered why you took that out. I always crack up
when I read it cuz it is just way so true.

Hey Lauren,

I'm just tired of working for people who couldn't manage a one car funeral. It's cost me money, sanity and sometimes come between my marriage. The latter is going waaaaay to far.

I suppose the hard part is having the kids and grandkids so far away. Somewhere in NC would be a much better place to be right now. Like I said, there's this burger flipping opportunity I want to pursue... I'm learning to say "you want fries with that?" in different languages too.

One more option for you,
I have been practicing, "Hello, welcome to Wally World".
I figure that will be my retirement job in a couple of years.

Lauren I freely acknowledge that I stole the signature line from you, it always made me smile and also recognized a reality. :)

So about the gathering... didn't it happen around November last year?

December 10. Found it. Why again are we waiting for April?

tadmania
10-28-2006, 04:49 AM
And who says we can only get together once? How about January and April!!! (One can tell that I have no idea how far apart y'all actually live. I hear "Florida" and I think y'all are neighbors!)

where? when? what do i bring? Is there a particular hotel we stay at? perhaps with a conference room? if not a conference room... then... where do we all meet? someones property? details... I'm in Pensacola.... and it takes me 6 hours to get to Tampa.. (at 100 mph of course)

tbondo

No reason not to get together earlier, but hard to find a weekend between now and the new year.....this is the season of all FL events.....

also season in FL, which makes cost prohibitive for out-of-towners (which we would all be in St. Augustine, except the Jax folks if they drove).....

I was thinking we needed to have some coordination jams to work out the details of preparation?

ricks
10-28-2006, 07:48 AM
Now I like that part about the "coordination" jam.
That would make a great title for a song or a CD BTW.

See that thread from Mike O about the same kind of thing Tom.
We might need to do a small scale M I or Melbourne area jam to get the ball rollin.

Whatdaya think ?

At least one AGF member lives in St Augustine!

But yeah, sorry I don't have a big house to put you all up. Half the time I can't even come to these things. ;(

I like the one we had in the old church in Jax that was
pretty fun and Allen had somone he could play with on
his flatpicking songs. I can stay with Rick and drive up
like before, That's why I liked that one. LOL

Melbourne is easy for me... just an hour & a 1/2 up the road. But anywhere it happens, I'll make the journey. As long as we're not talking Destin ;)
ROAD TRIP !!! :D

Dennis, a tune for you... please take it with the humor intended. Best of luck to ya.

Can't Complain – Todd Snider

A little out of place
A little out of tune
Sorta lost in space
Racing the moon
Climbing the walls
Of a hurricane
Still overall
I can’t complain

All I wanted was one chance
To let freedom ring
They said I had to get a permit
Tags and everything
I never made it through the red tape
I got this paper hat
I got a job working weekdays
You want fries with that?
Chorus:
I got nothin to lose
Nothin’ to gain
It’s like a one way ticket to cruisin’ the passing lane
I can’t complain

I was talkin’ with my girlfriend
I told her I was stressed
I said I'm going off the deep end
She said God for once give it a rest
We’re all waiting in the dugout
Thinking we should pitch
Now how you gonna throw a shutout
If all you do is b*tch?

Chorus

So now I got a brand new dance
I need one more shot
I just need one last chance
You know I know I won’t get caught
I gotta make my last stand
This time I can’t be bought
Then again on the other hand
How much have you got?

By the way... I'm up any weekend after next weekend for a drive to St Aug. to meet with some folks. Thanksgiving I'll be with my daughter (YES!) in Louisville... but just let me know and we can meet and pick pretty much anywhere from Jax to New Smyrna!

ricks
10-29-2006, 05:56 AM
Wade, any time you want a weekend farther south you just say so.
We got room and we can pick till it hurts, or until someone else hears me and calls the cops.
I'll check the schedule at the Milltop in St Augustine to see who is playing there any time soon, and we should always be able to catch Liz there.

If it's done the last weekend of April (28-29) I can probably make it...I'm looking at going down then for a week to visit grand kids. I'll keep an eye out.
