Hey Gang......

Between looking over my pet guitar order sheet and seeing the various threads popping up in the forum concerning clear pick guards, neck styles & widths, etc......I've gotten a bit anxious about a couple of items on my spec sheet.....opinions please....

Ok...under 'Model' I'm spec'd out for a 814CE/Ltd.......which would tell any of us in the know that it's to be a cutaway.

Next is the 'Wood' category....all is correct there.

Next is the 'Body' category. Beside 'Cutaway' there are three choices....'None', 'Venetian', and 'Florentine'. None of the three choices are circled, though the body style above dictates a cutaway. Should I assume they'll do a standard Venetian cutaway (which IS what I want...) ?

Also in the 'Body' category, it mentions pickguards with three choices 'Yes', 'No' and 'Loose'. None of the three are circled. I do remember Ed asking about a pickguard and I stated that I didn't want a pickguard on the guitar. (After reconsidering, I may have a clear pickguard installed or sent loose, but I definitely don't want the tortoise or black version....)

Next category is the 'Neck'. The three choices there are '1-3/4', '1-11/16' and '1-7/8'. None of the three are circled. Should I assume that I'll get the standard 1-3/4 neck, which is what I'm used to?

The rest of the sheet looks fine.

Am I being too paranoid here? (I realize I can circle all the correct items on my copy but the original is still with staff at Taylor.)

Thanks troops....
Rick

If it's not specified, it comes with the model defaults.

For instance, I'm getting an 810C. But on my form Ed had to put 810CE and speficy later no electronics .

So unless it varies from the standard, it doesn't have to be specified.

At least that was my understanding.

Agreed -- it will be standard specs unless specified otherwise. I got a straight 915 with 2000 appointments. When I got home I noticed in my old catalog these came with the smaller neck. I made some calls, quick! Good thing, because they would have made it with the smaller neck, following the specs in 2000. A straight 915 comes without a cutaway, and none of the cutaway choices are circled either.

I told them to throw a loose clear pickguard in the case....that way I have a form for building mylar ones.....Rick, there's no such thing as paranoid in this instance.....be specific or get what they send you....mine was totally spec'd out, but I added a note via the dealer to make the neck as dark as possible to cut down the contrast with the EI body.....

Trombone, it was fun talking with you at TS.....your guitar will be mine's big sister (915 versus 912C)....I've taken the edge off of waiting with this PS14....did the same thing when I ordered my K14C, bought a 414RCE while I was waiting. TAS got a holt on me!

Rick- you definitely arent being paranoid...believe me, I asked about a million questions of BT, Ed, and my dealer on this one!

Everyone is right about the factory defaults, though I made Jonathan circle the ones I wanted anyway (1 3/4, venetian, etc)

BUT I dont know what the default on the 800 limiteds is pertaining to the pickguard, though I have a sense it would be tortoise. In that case, I would call and make sure they do None or Clear...I remember being specifically asked about it, and having clear circled on my sheet...

Paranoid? nawww....just careful, and thats not a crime :)

I asked Ed the same questions and everyone's correct. If nothing is checked, written in or changed, the guitar will come with the factory defalts.

I was concerned with all of this too, but I think it will be fine. Ed seemed to know what I wanted.

If I were getting a "once-in-a-lifetime" guitar, I'd be asking many questions, too.

I'd double check every question you have about your custom order!

After all, "once-in-a-lifetime" doesn't come around twice.:)

What they all said. I checked my sheet over very carefully (especially the part about "no electronics") and noticed that I had forgotten to ask about a clear pickguard. I mentioned it to Ed and circled that item myself before sending the form to my dealer.

Also, even though Ed wrote in "build to 2002 LTD specs", my form didn't say anything about the wood, so just to be safe, I wrote "Wood selected at Taylorstock, 8/10/02" in the wood section. I'm still feeling a little antsy about it, but that's pretty much my nature.

If there's anything you're unsure about, check with your dealer and make sure it's noted on the form. Too much information is better than blind assumptions.

Hi Rick
Your very valid points urged a bunch of us, me included, to check our own specs. The only thing I have written is No elec. and no cutaway with $200 each subtracted from the price. It also has no pickguard circled. I called Ed and mentioned to him that since I was getting an 812 it comes with the standard Rosewood headstock in satin. I wanted the headstock in matching Imbuia also done in gloss. He said "Hmmmm, I think you would've received a call on this since the rosewood would not have matched an all Imbuia guitar". So I guess it's good to double check. Thanx for the headsup from you as usual. Rick, what would we do without you ?
