And hey - maybe those of us who'll be there who want to play/sing can agree on a couple of songs to know before we all get there, so we'll have something we all know....to keep from sitting around in a circle looking at each other, saying "hmmmm..."

Suppose we could do that...but why break tradition? ;)

All the way from Chicago this year, Sandy? Wow, we're on the verge of going national! Though with Russ's help we were international last year. ;)

Be cool if you could make it -

My singing partner Susan & I will be playing as SASS!, and we are looking at a possible coffeehouse or museum show Fri. night and UU church service Sun. morning, both in or around the general Charlotte area to help defray expenses (and make the trip tax-deductible). But all day and evening Sat. we will be 100% AGF!

Hope to make it again, though it's not as much of a given since I have a new daughter - can't just pick up and hit the road like I used to. But I hope I can make it with or without the family in tow.

Aw shoot!

TBondo- I got tix to see Clapton in Orl. on Fri. night too. It's my cuz's b'day bash weekend- u know a "boys" rock & roll weekend sort of thing. I reckon this is the Monroe gig u mentioned @ last month's most excellent Central FL AGF get-together???

Put me down for a rain check for next year y'all, unless of course the date somehow magically changes!

Can someone from a foreign country like Miami, Florida attend. Do I need my passport and a visa?

That's the first weekend after the last of the High Holy Days, so I might not be too coherant, but somebody fill me in on the details... where, hotels, closest airport, etc...

(EDIT)

I just spoke to the guitar store and left a message for Tad to see if he wanted to drive down together. I asked my wife if she wanted to come too... (she's a good listener)

(SECOND EDIT)

I just spoke to Tad and we're set to drive down together. How early does this thing begin on Saturday and how late will it last?

Is there anyone who can move the calendar a little faster?

Locked and loaded....for that 25 minute drive! :D

Last year was my first and was totally incredible.

LOL - OK, rub it in. It'll take me longer to drive to Miami International Airport than it takes you to get to MS.

On the other hand, when I go up a few days early to Raleigh, I'll get to see my grandchildren and go to Harry's with Tad.

I didn't see Rick Crider's name anywhere among these posts. Is he organizing this one?

I would love to make the trip to the Charlotte area for Monroestock, but it has always been scheduled on the weekend nearest my wife's birthday(Oct 19), and that just wouldn't go over to well.......

Well, my husband's birthday is Oct. 19, and he's not complaining (to be fair, he's usually working anyway).....

Stratman,

The out-of-towners tend to get in Friday evening (we stay in a nice Best Western that gives us a good rate) and do dinner together...last year Marion Holloway had us all over to his house (that's southern talk, not south FL) on Friday night......then we go back to the hotel and gather/jam/socialize in the lobby til we get tired (we're pretty much pansies, in bed by midnight).....then, we eat the free breakfast and go register at the Holloway Music store and do whatever the schedule includes until it's done...last year we all went to dinner together and then went back to the event location and played until midnight or so.....Sunday has been freestyle, with a lot of folks leaving to get home... this year could be different, but that's probably a good estimate.

Jeff, bring your wife...mine comes (as does my daughter and D-I-L)...it's not real boring for them either (like last year we had Frank P. and Allen Shadd and Jim Tozier and some classical guy all play plus some ran workshops later) The level of experience and talent was awesome.

Thanks for info Tom. We've already decided we're going to try getting away for that weekend. It's no question I'll get out of here, but my wife would like to see the grandkids and I'm trying to convince her to come for the music too.

I spoke to Tad today and his thoughts were that we drive down Saturday, but the Friday part sounds pretty neat and maybe I'll twist his arm a little to come down the night before.

didn't know about the Friday part--then it won't be bad at all if the coffeehouse or museum show falls through!

I'll add that date my my ever widening social calender. I hope to be there. I have really enjoyed this event the times I have been able to attend. I'll have to work up a new song for the open mic. Three months ought to be adequate to learn one new song. Hi, Lauren, Hope to hear you sing again. Mike :) :)

Sandy,

Did I read that you're coming as half of a guest duet? This MS thing just keeps getting better all the time....it'll be great to see you again

Lauren,

How about a Dylan song with scaboo verses?

Tom - I'm open to suggestions. The worst I could do it learn something someone else might know too. ;)

Mike - I hope you can make it again this time around, and I'm sure I'll get up and do something - Allen and I both will. How about you?

LEARN SOMETHING ???? Heaven forbid !!!!

I'm looking forward to this being the most educational and inspiring get together I've seen since Thanksgiving dinner! I'll probably have a dictafone machine or pen and paper in hand more than a guitar.

This is coming along at the perfect time too. I've been really frustrated this summer with my two guitar groups not meeting.

One group, affectionately called "The Summit" has met for 5 years, but through a series of illnesses, job problems and family obligations, we couldn't meet this summer. We travel to the home of one member or another and have been to Louisville, Miami, San Diego twice and Houston. It's a pretty eclectic mix of classical, rockers, country and rockabilly characters, but we mesh well and challenge ANYONE to eat more pizza than we can.

The other group, known as Normanstock, (after the Spiny Norman 100' tall invisible hedgehog), used to be every Labor Day in Berger, Mo. The property upon which it was held was sold by the family who owned it, so there is a group of friends, but no venue on which to play. We used to get about 30 people passing through and sometimes when a popular song came up, usually something Grateful DEad of The Band, you might have 30 people crowding around microphones singing to totally empty lawn chairs. What the hey - the grass loves us!

Because I'm the guy without a band and almost everyone else is in one, the blow isn't as hard on them. They satisfy their musical desires in other ways. To me, those weekends were the highlight of my summer.

Now, with Monroestock seemingly a firmly established entity and being close enough to marry a visit to my grandkids into the equation, I can't imagine anything more perfect.

Who is in charge of that clock???
