Right now there's a 614ce at Guitar Center that I think is the best Taylor guitar. Ask me again tomorrow.

Don't have a lot of experience with the GC's ( and none with the new style boxes) but I'm partial to the grand auditoriums. Just more comfortable for me with my style and if you pick the right wood you really don't miss having a dread. ( but I'm not a bluegrass picker and I'm sure most of them would disagree)

Spruce and maple first, then spruce with rosewood or Ovangkol.
(Still would'nt give up my Cocobolo 810, though) :D

The best Taylor is the one that's just out of your reach and has you GASing like crazy.

Yeah... this I can relate to. Until I pick up one I already have, and I'm fine for a while again. I have to shake my head at myself sometimes... ;)

The 814ce...very balanced with warm undertones and great bass response. Great for strumming or fingerpicking styles. Actually, so far I have 2 favorites (excluding the new GS).

1) 814ce
2) 614ce (for a bit brigher tone...plus, they are just gorgeous)

My K22ce is the best Taylor Guitar in the world. And the best guitar in the world, for that matter. See here (http://www.eltjohaselhoff.com/lessons.htm), listen here (http://www.peghead.nl/Taylor%20K22.mp3).
All agree? No objections?

...

OK, thanks, then it's formal now.

The best of any guitar is not a model, but a guitar. I can't help but recall the day I sat in a shop for an hour, playing all the high-end Taylors, Martins, Gibsons and Larrivees they had. And the best guitar in that room, that day, was a 214.

As you can see, you will never get a straight answer to this question.

I can't even come up with it myself, which is why I have so many. ;)
