I've been dreaming and scheming about what I'd like to do to customize the guitar I want to order after TaylorStock. I want it to be unique, but not cost an arm and a leg. Here's what I'm thinking:

814ce with no pickgaurd
600 series inlays on the fretboard (leafs)
Abalone Torch (Like the TGF logo)inlay on the Rosewood headstock

I've also envisioned the same type inlay work on a 514ce (But with abalone rosette too), as I am really torn between the tone of the two guitars. Of course final cost is going to play a big factor in the final decision.

What is everyone else thinking about doing with their designs?

I'm 99% sure I'm going to get a 912c (no electronics) with a cedar top. That nagging little 1% keeps the possibility of a k22c no electronics with a cedar top.

Well, after the stock market's performances lately, I'm thinking a Baby with Cindy inlays.:)

OK, not really, I AM thinking about a 614CE, the only Taylor (so far) I didn't buy and wish I had. Maybe with a custom inlay. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

David......
.....do you have plans for aftermarket electronics, or just leaving it all acoustic....?

(I'm considering leaving mine 'virgin' and experiment with (hidden) aftermarket pickups later on.....)

Thanks....

I'm thinking about an 810C now. I was going to do an NS62 (and I still might) but the new Dreds look mighty appealing.

I'd like to do one of the Fall LTD's, but I'm not sure if that's going to be an option.

Either an all walnut or koa x15. Original 900 series inlays and maybe something special inlayed on the headstock. No c or e at this time. Maybe abalone trim around the body. Price will play some part in this.

Of course I will have to have a special CaptBill TRC as soon as possible!

Almost certain...

NS62 c no e, unless the price to change to Natural 1 is cheaper than my dealer.

Still mulling over any other upgrades.

912(c?) or K12(c?) with Cindy inlay (ala 2000 900 series, with the abalone border around the neck and intersecting the rosette), 1 7/8" neck, and a redwood(?) top, chrome/nickel Schallers, and a special bridge inlay. The questions relate to top (cedar, englemann, redwood) and "to cutaway or not to cutaway on an X12 body". I'm hoping to like the sound of the redwood/rosewood being built for TStock, and I'm hoping Taylor has X12s in both configurations in their lair.

Rick,

I will definitely add electroincs to it, but nothing that harms the guitar (outside of a little end jack reaming if necessary). I have an I-beam in my Alberico and it sounds pretty good. I'm probably goint to try a B-band AST or a PUTW #27 and see how they compare to the I-beam. When I decide which one I like the best, I'll uninstall the loser, and put it in my Big Baby. Then I'll order another one of the winners.

The buying never ends.

612ce Cherryburst 2piece back, depending on if I can find that perfect piece of quitled maple that screams "TAKE ME HOME".
Abalone Torch inlay

or

712ce or 812ce
600 series inlays on the fretboard
Abalone Torch inlay

I would also like to include something that would project how this guitar was selected/created/built for me. ideas???

All guitars/wood/options/inlays will be dependent on cost and my better half's restraining arm. :)

Could be any of the following:

414c engelmann
714c engelmann florentine with some sort of customization...
814c engelmann
914c
nothing

Still debating- I think im gonna wait till I have wood in front of me.

I will be ordering my first Taylor after I pick my options at Taylorstock.

Looks like it will be a 914ce

thanks to a little advice from J.R I will be looking into getting the fishman Natural pickup option. As well as custom inlays and I hope something cool on the headstock.

I played a 514ce today that had the sweetest action I have ever felt on an acoustic guitar. I wonder if the mohogany neck with no binding made that much difference, or if it was just one of those guitars that just had it all right. The 714ce, 814ce and 614ce played a little stiffer and had a different feel.

Here's what I'm thinking....

514CE with Quilted Mahogany top. mmmmmmm!

Or, an NS72CE with engelmann top and flamed maple binding.

Or.... an all-maple 614CE Quilted top, back, and sides.

Talked to Taylor about this today and confirmed the details known thusfar. Again, I wanted to reiterate that there will be no upcharge for wood that you hand-select, or even have Bob hand-select a set of wood for you. Upcharges might only apply if you want to deviate from a standard wood grade or wood combination on the lower-end guitar models. There will be more flexibility on the higher-end guitars as far as wood combinations go. They will answer further specific questions at the event.

To me, this event is a dream come true. The opportunity to sort through Taylor's stock of wood, talk to Bob about it, and design my own guitar with wood that I choose, is an incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

[Note: Upcharges may apply if you deviate from a standard "grade" of wood offered on a particular model. An example might be ordering AAA-grade quilted maple on the NS-62CE, when the standard offering is AA-grade flamed maple. This is done on a case-by-case basis, and you'll need to ask at the event. Please don't be afraid to ask! You might be surprised....]

Is anyone looking at inlays you designed yourself? I wish I wasn't design/artistically handicapped.

All the talk about the new pickup system has really got me pumped! I'm now wondering if they'll have a prototype available at T-Stock to test drive, and what the cost would be to include in the new git-box...

OK.....I've screwed the pooch as regards my original plan for TaylorStock guitar.....the need for Cindy inlay has been obviated by passing thru to a PS14; abalone, abalone, abalone...so, the new plan is.......drumroll?......712C, 1 7/8" neck, chrome schallers, redwood top or 514c, same config.....maybe an abalone rosette, .....and since my wife will be with me, this is subject to her approval......

rsimper

tbondo- a word of caution...if you have not yet played a 6 stringer with the 1 7/8 neck...several people have ordered them and really didnt like the way the neck felt even though they were fingerstylists...its something to consider, and they were very unhappy with their guitars. They preferred 1 3/4.

If youve already played one, then GREAT! sounds like a sweet axe!

So, you're getting a PS14 and a 712C? Cool! But you really need to play a guitar with a 1 7/8" neck first, as Ryan stated.

Yeah, my wife is now absolutely convinced of my obsessive-compulsive disorder as a result.....then again, she thinks all my Taylors sound the same!!??? The PS14 should be coming in from Germany soon, it was too sweet a deal to pass up, and I've been focused on getting a X12 for some time. If the Tstock redwood/rosewood sounds like I expect it to, then I'll order the 712 as stated....but, I'm passing on the planned 912 or K12 with Cindy inlay....got my fill of abalone on the way.

my K14C has a 1 7/8" neck, and I think it is the best thing since single malt scotch, offshore winds, 7 iron to tap in range, sex in the outdoors(fill in something here)...you get the idea!!!!!!

BTW, "screwed the pooch" is flyer talk from my go-fast astronaut buddies. As you might know, most fighter pilots only think about flying, booze, and women...and I'm not sure of the order of that if/or, if/and , if/then statement.

Hey, Tom! Is this you new PS14?

CONGRATULATIONS! What a beautiful guitar - for an insane price. But the best part is.... It has "no dongs" - I'm sure you're very relieved about that.

J.R.,

Yes, the absence of dongs was very important to me......better pictures are here

Think there's enough abalone on this puppy???? I may have to dots on the side to figure out the fret schema (like the classical students do), cause I have no pictures of that side of the neck!
