Well, I saw the most incredible show Tuesday night here in Seattle as we sat up front and watched Arlo Guthrie and his small group give an excellent concert. Arlo has some pretty white hair, but he's as great as he's always been. For you interested in guitar brands, he was playing a pretty nice looking Gibson (not sure which one, i didn't jump up on stage and inspect the sound hole <g>), but it has florentine trim; also a 6 string Martin and a 12 string Martin.
His band consists of his son on keyboards and bass (Abe Guthrie), and an incredible steel guitar player, Gordon Titcom (www.gordontitcomb.com). Gordon really tears in the pedal steel, but also demonstrated his plucking skills on his Gibson Dove, on his mandolin (Gibson, i believe, but again, I didn't inspect it), and his Gibson florentine banjo. I just sat in awe of him all night. Great stage presence, great smile, and amazing talent. I encourage all of you to check out Gordon's site and his new CD, "The Last Train".
After the show, a bunch of us hung around in the lobby and Arlo eventually came out and signed for anyone who was interested (I, of course, was very interested).
So, check out Arlo's new "Live in Sidney" cd, and be sure to check out Gordon and his website. Gordon has been a "sideman" (his words, actually) for the last 30 yrs for many artists you'd all recognize, and I hope some day I'll be able to pluck the steel 1/100 as good as he does. Takes practice, I guess.
Enjoy.
