Well, I'm a rambling man going from town to town...seriously, I'll be in Canberra this weekend and was wondering if any of our "Down Under" members who are nearby (yes, I know how BIG Australia is ;) ) would like to get together with a visiting Yank? :)

Do you mean "southern Australia", Russ, or are you going to South Australia as well?
Canberra is doable from Sydney for a day trip or overnighter, but I have two gigs on Sat and Sun is full of stuff that if I don't get it done now, things won't be a pretty sight. Bummer!
What's the rest of your tour schedule like?

Bummer! Would love to go but I'm busy this weekend also....apart from the fact that I 'could' potentially give you my glandular fever
enjoy your stay & visit Sydney if time permits!!
(Helloo ParleyDee!! :))

Hiya reags! Sorry to hear you're unwell.
Russ, I wasn't real clear in that first post, sorry ... Canberra/the ACT is in southern eastern Australia but there is also a state called South Australia which is southern central Australia ...

If you head too far South you may end up in another country...such as Tasmania
Parley - I didn't know you do gigs also that's real great! Where abouts do you play? Are you a solo act or do you have a support band?

Hi guys, I meant southeastern Australia, forgot about the state of South Australia! ;)
I arrive in Canberra late Friday night and have the weekend to kill, had to do that so I could get the airfare DOWN to 3100 Euro!
ParleyDee, where's your gig, I can try to get to it Saturday. Do you know how long it would take me to drive from Canberra to Sydney?
The rest of my trip will be spent working in Canberra Mon-Wed. I leave on Thurs, arriving back in Germany early Fri morning.
Reags, appreciate your restraint on not sharing your glandular feaver! When it get back to Germany, I'm off to Austria for a ski weekend and then Croatia to find my family's roots after that trip. I have not time to get sick! :)

Well, interesting turn of events...the hotel I'm staying at in Canberra starting Sunday night has no vacancies Friday or Saturday night, so looks like I may be staying in Sydney for the weekend and fly to Canberra on Sunday. So, with that in mind, ParleyDee, I'd love to swing by and catch your gig or 2! :D

Ah, not that kind of gig this particular weekend, guys! I'm doing a singer-guitarist with instrumental quartet thingy for a nuns' golden and diamond jubilee special service.
I allow three hours for the Syd-Canberra drive, Russ, and three-and-a-half to be sure if I'm going for "business" of any sort.
If/when you know your timing and where you'll be in Sydney, let's know. Sat's pretty full but something might work out.
What you must do while in Canberra is go to Telstra Tower on Black Mountain in daylight. You'll see it, no trouble- looks like a minaret spire on the hills just on the edge of town. The view is worth the trip. I don't know whether the National Gallery and those sorts of places have late night opening at this time of year, but there's no shortage of "cultural" things to do.

Hmm, sounds interesting! I just booked a Sydney hotel for Fri and Sat nights based on what my local contact advised, something about a balloon fest in town in Canberra and no rooms available this late notice. I'm staying at the Medina Executive Sydney Central which is supposed to be by the train station, which one I have no idea (perhaps the Central one?), but that's where I'll be. I fly out in about 8 hours and arrive Sydney Friday evening. From there I leave Sunday for Canberra.
If anybody's schedules change, post here, email me at rmatijevic at gmail dot com or call the hotel.
Still need to get some sleep and pack!

It is a long flight from anywhere to Sydney.
Russ, it's a flat out Sat as you know ... and I'm kinda torn between suggesting meeting up somewhere and getting underfoot when you only have two days of sightseeing in Sydney!!
PM me if you have plans, maybe I can work round them and catch up somewhere. I'll probably check email/PMs in the am before my gig but after about 8.30am I'll be tied up till 7.30pm. Maybe Sunday is a possibility.
Good to know you got here OK!

Hi Reags! It was a great, but short, trip. Had a terrific exchange with your ADF folks. Wish the Sydney thing could have worked!
