Cabin Fever 2006 is going on in Hampton Virginia (very close to Norfolk/Virginia Beach area) this weekend. March 3-5

Website, http://www.cabinfeverpickinparty.com/

It is billed as the biggest picking party on the east coast. I went last year and had a blast. Thousands of people decend on a Holiday Inn and there are non stop bluegrass bands playing in the auditorium from morning to late at night plus mandolin, guitar, fiddle, bass, banjo and vocal workshops going on.

But the best part is the picking. Every (and I mean EVERY) room in the place is booked and there are jam sessions going on in almost every room, hallway, attrium, heck you walk into the ice machine room and there's 10 people crammed in there jamming away.

Some of the best players I have every seen where there. Little kids 10 years old could fiddle and pick like nothing I had ever seen. I have no interest in the event but had a LOT of fun last year and highly recommend it to anyone who likes Bluegrass, Accoustic String music or Old Time.

SEE YOU THERE! :)

Don I'll be taking the mandolin and guitar workshops again this years. Don't know who's running the guitar workshop but I talked with E.T. Firth of Code Blue when I was at the Larry Sparks concert and he said he was running the mandolin workshop again. The guy is a fantastic picker!

I'll be playing the Flatiron F or picking the Taylor 810 with a black POW/MIA ball cap on. Come on up and say hi!

:D

Yeah, E.T. and Ronnie Barnes (the other mandolin instructor... who is with "East Virginia") are great musicians. We always enjoy it when the whole "Code Blue" gang joins in when we are all in the warm up rooms..

Did you get to hear "Solid Rock".... (great 4 part harmonies)... :) They were there Sat. nite in one of the stairwells

Sat. nights "Night Owl Concerts" were pretty darn fun, also..

We need to see you more at the these tidewater gatherings..

Hey Don,
I am still recuperating LOL! Picked until 2am Fr and Sat and I was at the Midnight night Owl Concert. I thought Mill Run was excellant.

Since my main instrument is mandolin I posted my Cabin Fever pictures over on the Mandolin Cafe under Gatherings and Get Together in case you are interested.

Also what Tidewater gathering are you refering too? I go to most events around here, bout the only one I miss is the Farmer's Market jam in the summer because of time but really there is not much here in Tidewater (or Hampton Roads to some) for Bluegrass and Old Time.

I go to Cabin Fever every year and don't usually miss a concert. catch most of the TFFM concerts. Did you catch Code Blue and Larry Spaks at the Chrysler Museum a few weeks ago?

Theres just not that much around here which is surprising because of our areas size.

I go to the jam at the White Horse on Wed do you know of any more?

Here's afew few shots of Cabin Fever! We gotta hook up one day Don and do some pickin! :D
