I'm looking for folks in the Denver area to play Irish folk with. I'm an experienced acoutstic guitarist of 29 years who could quickly learn Irish folk, I've been practicing the mandolin for about two years with Simon Mayor and Philip John Berthod method books. Next week I begin to teach myself bodhran. I'm not interested in speed sessions, and I need folks who allow me time to come up to speed. I've spent lots of time in method books, so my only repertoire is the stock tunes, and I've never played them with anyone. But I am a capable amateur musician, and finding some comrades is the next step to grow and to contribute. I live an hour west of Denver, but I'd be willing to come down the mountain to make friends and music. I like casual living-room sessions for fun, but I'm open to other venues. Anyone interested? Feel free to contact me privately at brian@dillonchurch.org.

i don't play irish, but i did go to the irish festival last summer in littleton... so i know there are players in the area. You might want to try swallow hill (www.swallowhill.com), they might have something for you and if they don't they'd know where to point you.

you should check out the weekly irish session at conor o'neill's in boulder. sunday nights starting at 7-7:30ish. if you want to join in, it might be better to come early or late, as it can get pretty crowded in the middle. but in general, i think it's a pretty welcoming session full of some great, friendly musicians.

here's a list (http://www.thesession.org/sessions/index.php/search?country_id=173&areaname=Colorado&town=&day=Any&search=Search) of all the colorado sessions listed at thesession.org (an irish trad resource).

edit: upon re-reading your post, the boulder session might be the type of "speed session" you're not interested in. though they will often play at slower tempos to accomodate those of us who can't keep up. anyway, another alternative might be this tune learning session in longmont (http://www.slowplayers.org/SCTLS/).
