Ok folks, at the suggestion of my good buddy Tim Barwick, I am gonna try to organize dinner for thursday night (unless someone else is planning to...)

Here are the questions...

what kind of food are we wanting

is money an issue for anyone such that a 5 dollar meal would be acceptable but a 15 dollar one would not be...

do we want quiet or rowdy environment

do we want a restaurant only, or something more (i.e. dave and busters if you are familiar with it)

does 7:30 work for everyone? or is that going to exclude someone that is getting in right about then that could actually make it at 8 or 8:30 if we changed it.

ALL interested parties please respond to this thread. Ill throw a poll up too just for the sake of objectivity...youll be able to vote for more than one.

Thanks Ryan!

I'm open for anything at any time, as long as I can stay awake which is a challenge.

8:00pm works better for me, but 7:30 isn't objectionable...

I'm already a "left-coaster" but I'm up for In-N-Out anytime!! Cheap, fun, quick, something you can only do while in California(well, for those coming from back east). I wouldn't mind Dave and Busters, I've played there, but never eaten there.

Is there any other choice than In & Out Burger? I'd be happy as a clam to eat a double-double.

Well, right now it looks like cheap meal AT a fun place has the lead. I think that would work well...Dave and Busters has pretty standard burgers and stuff- to eat it would probably be 8 bucks or so...10 tops. Its a fun place to be social, its good for groups (and with 9 votes thusfar I am guessing we will have what will qualify as a group) you can get drinks, play games, make a fool of yourself, and its convenient to the T and C hotel.

In n Out is also convenient, so those of you who want double doubles thursday night could get them and come on over to have some drinks or something if you so desire.

This is by no means a final plan, but Im just voicing my approval for the leading option at this juncture.

Im gonna spend that day on the beach at coronado :) I called up some of my old friends that I worked at the Hotel Del Coronado with and theyre gonna give me the run of the place for the day - I love connections!

I'd definately vote for Hooters for sure! However, I was thinking that it might be interesting to order in some killer pizza while we all sit around and pick a few tunes. After all, isn't that why we're there? There's loads of options. Even sending someone out to "In-N-Out" for 50 burgers!

This would be a tough one to call. Especially not knowing EXACTLY how many people will be attending. (IE: flight delays, late flights, broke, etc.) But, I'll roll with the crowd. I just hope there's a bar near by.

Need to keep in mind, transportation needs to be coordinated as well for anything "off site".

Pizza and guitars? no no no no no....think grease + satin necks..!!! :ha:

Anyway- D&Bs has A bar, though the place is not a bar in the true sense of the word. Im definitely up for whatever the vote goes as, but I think friday and saturday night will be good times to sit around and play...I think thursday would be better as just a casual meet and greet type thing.

It's called "soap and water". I wasn't suggesting anyone play with a piece of pizza resting on their head stock. Geeze....like a hamburger is grease free?

Darnit- and I just put in an order for some of those new pepperoni flatpicks and a bacon capo!

There are two Hooters in San Diego; one downtown and one in Pacific Beach.

While I certainly like the service (what's not to like?), in my always mildly humble opinion, their food sucks. If it wasn't for the scenery, I'd never go back there. They also charge an import beer price for Sam Adams. I can't have that.

The one thing about Mission Valley (where the T&C is) is that there are more restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

However it goes, I'm in. I'm playing hooky from work on Friday, so I don't even care how late I stay out...

My first night plans call for a nice meal, a couple cocktails, and catching up with an old friend I haven't seen in years that's making the trip. Maybe we can hook up with y'all in the hotel later that night?

Steve - Any suggestions on a decent Italian or seafood place in the Mission Valley?

They're good, but I wouldn't want to forego a nice big hunk o' red meat for them...

I think there's a place down there called the Tickled Trout. Used to be pretty good; not sure now, as it's been years since I've been there.

There's another place in Mission Valley, Bully's, which I think has a pretty good seafood menu (again, it's been years), although it's mainly a steak place.

I'll do a little re-con and get back to you...

Well......had to wait till our cheap flights were confirmed prior to answering here.......finally rounded up tickets through Priceline.com for $220......Charlotte NC to San Diego with one layover. (Still, much better than the $474 quoted directly from the airlines though....)

Flight doesn't arrive till 8:00 PM. Not sure how long it will take to disembark, get out of the airport, get to the hotel, etc.......

.....so.....looks like we may be a little late to be planning for dinner.......

Hope to run into some of you at the hotel once we get settled in though. Wife isn't going.....it'll be my buddy Jeff and myself......

Hey rick- congrats on the cheap plane flight. If you are rolling in at 8, and the group decides to go to Dave and Busters after dinner, you could always swing through for a drink and a few games of skee-ball to unwind.

What airline did priceline give you? From charlotte I would guess there is a pretty good chance it was US Scare-ways?

Ryan....
.....well....actually it's a Cessna 150.....Pilot's name is Vern. He must be in the stone business....said something about dropping off a couple pounds of rock just below the border, thus the layover.

Seriously though, it's on American Airlines and the layover is in St. Louis, MO., ......we'll lose about an hour there.

See ya'll there.

Ok well barring some massive write-in campaign, cheap meal AT a fun place has won, so I think Dave and Buster's sounds like the ticket. How many people are coming? It will be pretty informal there, probably several small tables with all of us getting up to go play games and stuff...

How bout 8:30 in order to accommadate both late arrivals as well as people who prefer to eat elsewhere and just come hang out later?

Any objections or suggestions? Im flying blind here in many ways, so let me know!

How late do you guys anticipate being there?

My flight doesn't arrive until about 9:35pm (I though it was later for some reason). :(

Can I walk to D&B's from T&C? :)

rsimper
07-10-2002, 01:38 PM
Walk? nawww...but im sure someone could give you a ride back to the T and C...

I plan to be there till most everyone decides to leave. If everyone is having a good time, some of us might straggle till 11? I dunno- someone else speak up!!!

jeffrey

I'll stay till 1 or 2, I don't care. I'm not going all the way there to get 8hrs of sleep a night. ;)

I'm guessing I'll need a ride to Dave and Busters then once I get settled in my room.

Since it looks like a late start to begin with, add in the fact that most of us will want to visit and play, I would almost bet that it will be a rather late night.
Especially since we can sleep in till10am or so the next morning.
