It is a 60 second drive from where I work..but I have to go to Louisiana Saturday and the Cowboys game Sunday. DOH! If it was Friday too, I'd be too 'sick' to work.

Guy-The Arlington Convention Center is directly opposite the Dr. Pepper ballpark which is a bit to the north of the Ballpark. It is just south of I-30 and I think the exit is Ballpark Way. I'm going on Sunday afternoon and hope to see you there.

Anybody else?
Bill

two ballparks? i don't even know where one is!

actually, unless i'm really off the mark, there's a sign on collings street that says convention center. i pass it quite frequently. so i know the general area within a few blocks. there's a whole complex of red brick buildings down that way. and i'm sure i'll recognize the building by the time i get that close by the guitar cases wending their way in and out and the 150db noise level as the grungemeisters deplete the north texas electric supply.

There's a billboard about the Guitar Show on Beltine in Irving...
I'd probably be there, if we weren't camping @ Inks Lake...

and it's @ the Arlington Convention Center. When we move back to Texas, I went there last year, not knowing a thing about Arlington, and I found the place! YOU CAN'T GET LOST...even if you try...
1. I-30W
2. Ballpark Way (past Six Flags)
3. you're there!

At any rate, y'all have fun...

Man, I wanted to make it this year. But unfortunately, I'll be in Florida - chasing sheep, ducks, trying not to get run over and maybe have a little fun on the beach - but mostly just the sheep and dogs..

Ahh, such is life!

If anyone scopes any Morgans - play 'em for me ok? Then tell me all about!

Show up in a couple weeks in Frisco and you can get your AGF T-Shirt.

I will be there on Saturday afternoon.

You guys do me a favor and stop by the "Anderson Guitar Gallery" and tell them thanks for helping with the get together and for all the things they do for the "guitar community". They really do some fun stuff!

Guy, go talk to the guys at Dave's Guitars from Wisconsin. I got my PRS Archtop from them. Outstanding guys with a huge selection (when I got mine in 03) and very, VERY good prices.

I'd be happy to help you shop for one. :D

Don't exactly have to twist my armt o make me play guitars. :)

hi jeffrey:

sorry i missed you today. i barely found chris! i was chasing down prs options all afternoon. i did find dave's a good place but they didn't quite have what i was looking for. they did have an interesting single-cut (les paul lawsuit) model with dave tremonti's name on it. no idea who he is. the headstock had been cracked and repaired so they were knocking quite a bit off it.

this show was quite a bit different from the dallas show. not near as loud or crowded. somehow i felt dallas had more guitars, but maybe that was because they weren't spread out as much.

the real stinky part is that the only prs i found that had the features i wanted was at ... wait for it ... guitar center! i pass by there on the way to work each day--i didn't need a guitar show to find it.

but i did get to meet a prs rep for the area and he actually helped me talk them down in price since the one i wanted had a bad ding in it on the upper bout. even at that i've gotta trade an amp in so i'll have to go back tomorrow.

got to meet two steve's at anderson guitar and really liked steve the owner. wish they were closer to me so i could visit them more often.

there was a real nice guy out of bentonville arkansas who sold collings and i talked to him for quite awhile. he knew my collings dealer, kevin davis of hill country guitars, so we had a good chat. i told bill to go talk to him when he goes tomorrow.

Well, I'll second the comment about Dave's! Alicia and I drove down from Chicago to the show, and found a '99 Taylor K-20-C lefty! :D

I enjoyed the show. I was with my 12 year old son who wound up wheeling and dealing and sold two of the three guitars we sold today. He was on a mission. He proptly gave back the generous "sales commission" I gave him an hour later at Cabelas.

I must say that it feels good to thin the stable and come home with more $$ and less equipment. My official apology to Chris for taking our two favorite trade guitars out of the mix.

I'm glad I left my checkbook at home. I've never seen so many guitars. one vendor said there were 10,000. It tooks us 3.5 hours to walk both rooms. Of the 10,000 guitars I only found two early 60s Gibson SGs (electrics) price tag of $18,000. there were lots of acoustics: Martin, Gibson, and some Taylors. The biggest price tag we saw was $139,900. I saw one acoustic with a moon theme inlaly. Had the phases of the moon inlayed around the sound hole. very pretty. I saw a lot of hollow body electrics and fell in love with several. I saw one fellow with a taylor guitar forum t-shirt.
One thing I hadn't seen before was this POD thing. I will have to get one. Gibson had several of them set up with guitars attached and with headphones for demoing guitars. The range of effects and cabinets sounds in such a small device was amazing to me.

dang greg, i missed you too? that does it, we're all going to have to get agf beanie hats. i suggest with the propeller option for us geeks.

i'm already in and out before 11am. i tossed and turned last night after having done about 95% of a deal with guitar center for a prs with a blemish on the upper bout which seemed about the best i could do given i wanted a certain set of features. i just hate having to deal with guitar center for anything over $19.99 i can't pull off a package on their wall.

before i returned and finalized the deal at the guitar center booth i returned to where i'd seen the best looking prs at the show but had not inquired about since the hang tag price was way out of my budget. this was at fuller's vintage guitars out of houston.

i explained to the owner about the deal i was about to make with guitar center and what my budget was and bottom line was i ended up with a better price on a perfect guitar as opposed to the dinged one at guitar center even without having to trade in my other guitar and amp to get it.

i'll post some pictures when i can. i hope i can even get some good enough to do it justice, but it's a 2004 prs custom 22 stoptail with a quilted green 10-top, wide-fat neck, locking tuners, dragon2 pickups, abalone birds on fretboard. they had some room to deal since they'd had it awhile and the 2005 20th anniversaries are the current model. i found huey wilkinson and joan two of the nicest people i'd met lately.

here's a link to what it looks like in lieu of my pictures. not exactly sure if this is the exact one i bought, but close enough to be twins:

Guy and Larry,

Sorry I missed you guys. I'm suprised that my son didn't come up and ask if you wanted to buy a guitar. He didn't did he? I think he asked everyone else there, including Chris and Wade. I hope to see you guys in Frisco. I don't have the official O.K. yet...

well...if you pull up to the get together and you hear this horrible sound that resembles bluegrass it could me attempting to learn mandolin. I picked up a Breedlove Sunburst Quarts OF today.

Wish me luck!

no use pretending to be nice. my prediction is that at first it will sound like grandma rocked over the cat. of course it could have been much worse, he could have latched onto a violin and we would all be looking for a new city to move to.

You know, I really didn't think the mando would be that tough.

I printed some chord charts last night, picked up the mando and.....holy crap! I sure wish Taylor would build a mandolin. I am hoping the Breedlove I bought just needs a good setup. It is hard to belive but the reachs on this little thing are pretty difficult.

Oh well, gotta start somewhere.
