Ok. Reading the last thread, I decided to narrow it down by choosing a date for each of the upcoming months. My choices were based on mostly what was voted and what was discussed in the thread. I threw out Oct 22/23 because of the recently planned Monroestock, I felt it would be in the best interest for the forum members that would like to also attend that. So let's try to nail this down. Any discussion as usual is welcomed. Even though I have plans for Oct 1/2, they are local to Jax so i hopefully can juggle things and make both. That date seems to also be the date most logistical for most everyone who joined the discussion from Fla, with the exception of Fishing the Sky from Orlando.

I'm gonna go a "reverse vote" here.
Didn't put anything in the poll, cause I am just gonna tell ya the date I can't make it. Nov 5/6 will be out for me.
The other two dates are fine, at least for now. Can't ever tell when something will come up. But they are good to go as far as I know.
So, I'll let the "masses" decide and follow along.

As the only voter so far, I went for the Dec date merely because I was looking for separation from MonroeStock and hurricane season....and in that case, later is better....

Hmmm good point tbondo, wait till the end of hurrycane season; I just got done w/ my 10 day storm support tour in Mijamee. I'll probably be doing storm support again if'n another one comes around. Nov. is technically still in season, but storms are less likely. Though after last year, never say never! So put me down as OK for any, barring an encroaching or post-storm situation. The Nov. or Dec. dates are better odds for me.

Nov 5-6 is the only one that's workable for me.

I went ahead and voted for the Dec dates.
Like Tom said, the later away from strom season the better, especially after the developments of today.
We now have hurricane Ophelia sitting RIGHT off the coast of me and Tom.
Wish us luck, I am NOT ready for another year in the EOC and cutting trees up.
Sorry Phil, I can't make Nov. So either way I guess I'll miss ya.

I've gotten my calender cleared for the Oct dates, but I'm ok with Dec also so I'll go ahead and vote that way as well. I hope Ophelia gets on out of here. I'm supposed to be flying out of Jax next Thursday headed for Winfield, if that sucker's still here I won't be going nowhere! I here you about last year ricks, we lost power for 7 days and luckily only sustained some minor property dameges, coulda been alot worse.

New member here. What is the Jax gathering?

Pistolero

Mike o, the 'jax gathering' is an oppurtunity for forum members to get together, meet face to face, trade a few guitar licks, hear some picking and grinning, check out the various instruments that will be brought along by all, maybe even over some dinner or appetizers. We voted on location, decided this one will be in Jacksonville. Now we are trying to decide a date that works the best for everyone. Some of the forum members did this here awhile back, I wasn't around then but I understand a good time was had by those attending (maybe the fact that I wasn't around had something to do with it? :hmm:  ).

Welcome to the group MikeO.
Where abouts in central Fla are you?
We might be close enough to have our own get togethers.
I'm in New Smyrna.

I'm in Sebastian. We should try that sometime. Let me know.

I'll do that Mike.
All my grandkids are on Merritt Island, so I go that way pretty often.
We also have a couple other members right down that way.
I'll give you a shout the next time I head south. I'll be down for the Pierre Bensusan concert at the King center in a couple of weeks, the 25th I think.

Now all we got to do is get ahold of TBondo and DickensDad and we got a
"group".

I voted for December. There's no way in early October because of the Jewish holidays, (I run a synagogue), and November is just too busy with other travel... mostly NC to see my granddaughter.

By December, I should show up like a typical proud grandfather with more pictures to brag about, (smartest kid in the world, right?), so be prepared!

Who flies to Jax from Miami? I'd rather fly in instead of having a 6-7 hour drive.

Also, is there anyone else in Miami around this forum?

Stratokatsu:

Southwest flies Ft. Lauderdale to Jax and back again about 6 times a day Mon-Fri and 3 or 4 times a day Sat. & Sun.

I think the round trip fare with at least a 7 day advance purchase will run you about $125. Of course, it's been a year or so since I use to fly Southwest around the state, so it may have gone up some with the fuel prices.

stratokatsu, I'm in West Palm... seems I remember someone posting here that was also in Miami, but that's been awhile, haven't heard from them in ? months.

As for fly vs. drive, I'm on the other end of that ... I can make Jax in 4hrs. from WPB, I figure by the time I do all the security stuff / baggage claim, I can drive it as fast as the flying process would take. Plus of course PBI has only so many flights, & not many on the cheap.

Carpooling may be a way to go; I've got the minivan w/ room for several guitars... split the gas & it'd be pretty economical. Copilots are always welcome on longer drives :D

Anyways, something worth considering....

MikeNot too bad from Miami either... about $140 round trip on American. With gas around $3.00 plus per gallon, (unless something dramatic happens by December), the carpooling is a good idea or flying to save time. I recently drove to Jax and really didn't enjoy that much time behind the wheel like I did years ago.

I'm sort of "on the way" and have not made any firm plans as yet, so let me know if I can help out in any way.
Mike, you thinking of making the trip from the left coast?

Rick:

I'm thinking about it and would like to, as I'd like to put some faces with the names! I've got a bunch of things going on right now and a few trips already planned, so it will come down to the timing.

I'm playing it by ear and hope it works out!

Yeah - I'd like to meet some of the Florida crowd too. I'm going to look at my work calendar to see if the December weekend can be worked out.

When would we know whether it's confirmed and the details of hotels nearby, where we get together and all that stuff?

About carpooling... I don't know exactly where everybody is who plans on attending, but I will be driving from the Fort Walton Beach area over to Jax. If anybody is along the way and wants a ride, give me a shout.

What happened to this?

Pistolero
10-26-2005, 10:34 AM
Nothing happened to this....literally! Jus'kidding. I figured with alot of the attention going into Monroe Stock, and the fact that the date pretty easily seems to be Dec 10/11 (which gives us ample time to plan), I would wait until after M/S before resuming plans. So at this point, I'll make the call for it to be Dec 10/11 weekend, based on your decisions reflected in this poll. In the meantime, I will communicate with Lisa and help determine the locale it will be held at, and then try to find a local motel that is willing to give AGF a decent group rate.

I didn't see this before but just happened on it. I know I have a couple of days I have to use before the end of the year (because they don't carry over) so potentially I could take a 3-day weekend for this. I voted for the December dates.

I have to say I've never travelled to an AGF thing before, since I live half an hour from Monroestock, so I'm happy at the idea of a road trip. Depending on the mileage and other factors I'd like to plan on being there.

Hey, a backyard (within 2 1/2 hours travel time) gathering ...just what the doctor ordered...I'm a'ready

Okay, so I already requested that Friday off and it's been approved. Far as I'm concerned I have a three-day weekend set up in the worst case scenario, and well, we know what the best case is!

Tom, I'm not bringing the dip on a 6-hour road trip, though. ;)

Pistolero

I'm walking out the door in just a minute, headed for Nashville for the weekend. When I get home I'll get with Lisa and get things nailed down as to where everything will be held. So hopefully next week we'll be set on this.

Lauren, I'm really glad you're gonna make it down for this. I really didn't get to hear your songs at Monroestock very well since alot of folks were trying to talk to me at the same time, but you sure have a beautiful voice. Don't sweat the mexican dip, just come as you are. BTW, it was 369 miles in my trip log to Monroe from Jax last weekend, one way, if that helps you with the mileage part of things.

See you folks next week.

I just got word yesterday for sure about the hall where we intend to meet. I've spoken to Lisa a few times to try and get things in order. It is set for December 10th. I will go talk to hotels nearby during the early part of next week and try to get something solid for the out of towners to plan to. Lisa discussed maybe a time slot of 11 am to 5 pm for the gathering. That sounds pretty good to me as well, but we can sure discuss it amongst ourselves if need be.
