I foud out the info on this event today.
http://www.ruralfest.com/
Looks like there are going to be several really good players in concert including Norman and Nancy Blake. I was planning on visiting friends in the chicago (Aurora) area this weekend anyway so I will at least try to make a portion of it... According to the events website it is supose to be free.....
Note: They have a Jam session scheduled too!
I don't know if this is the correct area to post something like this (my 1st post!) so let me know if I goofed....

After the concert, come up to Borders in Algonquin on Randall Rd. to see me and my singing partner Susan Urban perform as "SASS!" We play two sets from 8-10pm.

So did I, ha ha! AQnd not knowing who they are, I thought, "I wonder why? Were they arrested for trying to save redwood trees?"
Isn't that funny? I'm not awake, have yet to drink any coffee...

Bagelsgirl, you owe it to yourself to know who Norman Blake is.(If that sounded demeaning in anyway, it isn't meant to be and I apologize, just didn't know how else to say it). He is one os the most prolific artists of our time, and is a throwback to the older times. And that goes for Americana in general, not just for us flatpickers. He was on the original 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' album, he toured with Dylan, Baez, Johnny Cash... the list goes on. He lives in Rising Fawn, Ga, just across the state line from Chattanooga Tn. He very easily falls into the top 5 category for flatpicking guitarists, along with Doc Watson (whom he also recorded several albums with) and has a style that may be the hardest to emulate of anyone else. He was on the Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack... accolades could go on and on about Norman Blake.
Although now he is into the Nick Lucas Gibsons of the 1920's there was a time he carried several 'old' martins with him. The first time I met him I was a kid, maybe 13 or 14 years old, and he had a Martin that was made around 1837 (not a typo). It was a tiny guitar with tons of character. He put it in my lap and let me play it, I'll never forget the feeling of holding that guitar, or the gesture he made by letting a young guitar player hold something that most never get to see.
He and Nancy separated for awhile in the late 90's. I played a show with him in Birmingham around the time that they were getting back together. I'll never forget, as we were going over the show in a backroom, someone made it in and questioned Norman about his um.. marital status. He responded with the remark that his divorce wasn't going so good, he and Nancy were getting it back together, lol.
As I am putting together my website to be running in a month or so (hopefully), here is a peek at one of the photos from it, of me and Norman. Getting to play with him is most definately one of the highlights of my musical journey. And Kenwood, keep the pictures coming of Norman and Nancy, that is a great picture man!

ok, as promised.... a few of the pics from the Norman Blake Concert.
These arn't all I shot, just the ones I liked at 1st glance.
The photos are quick edits of some very large files. The originals are in what is known as RAW format (12 Meg a piece!).
These files are bumped down to under 120K in size (1024 x ?? )
If you would like a copy suitable to make a really BIG print from, contact me.
OK, again I have to do links so here they are:

Don't mind at all.
Thats the image I am using right now as well.
What resolution do you have your desktop at?
I use 1280x1024 and that puts a nice border around the pic for Icons.
(I hate Icons on top of other graphics :)
( the current pics are at 1024 X what-ever the hight works out to be...)
If you need a different res and it's not for publication (your desktop would not be of course) I may be able to provide another copy -sans- my copyright, at the res you use........
Let me know.
