Anybody going to the Folk Festival in White Springs this year? It runs May 27-29 and the headliner this year is one of my all time favorites, EmmyLou Harris. She'll be there on Saturday evening. I took this booking as a late one. I have a prior booking on Saturday during the day, a private engagement but I will be there on Saturday evening and all day Sunday. I know I'll be performing with Doug Gauss, and I'm not sure who else. I'm kind of 'on call' if you will. I understand that a couple of groups that were booked will not be able to make it so we may be filling their time slots.
One of the slots that I'm filling is of Vassar Clements. Some of you may know and some may not. Vassar is a legendary fiddler whose credits include everyone from Bill Monroe to Jerry Garcia. Lately his style has been coined as Hillbilly Jazz. Vassar was diagnosed with cancer in January and is undergoing treatments in Nashville. Those that have had the honor of meeting Vassar will tell you that not only is he an icredible musician, he is truly one of the most humble and true gentlmen that you will ever meet. I've had the honor of sharing a stage with him before and will forever include that as one of the highlights of my music career. Please say a prayer for him and his family.
If any of you make it to the Folk Festival I'd love to meet you. I also plan on hanging out in the campground and picking on saturday night.
