I'm far enough away that I could not make it TOO regular, but would definitely be up for it as often as I could. There are several members in the Jax area that might be interested as well. LISA, you out there listening?????
We had a get together back in Jan. that was great. Only about 6 of us, but well worth the drive for me. See if you can scare up some of the Jax members and keep me posted.

depending on when it would happen, I would love to come. I'm over in the panama city area, so it'd be a few hours in the car for me, but i could try and plan on playing some music on my own out there in the days before and after, sounds like fun! keep me posted!

I'll watch this thread too. Sometimes I have work that interferes, but I'm here in St Aug.

I would definately be interested, like Bagelsgirl I may have work that interferes. I always like to see the different guitars, as well as all the different styles of players. I have quite a few nice acoustics that I'd be happy to bring and pass around.

I'm up in Savannah but would try to drive down if it was held on a Saturday or Sunday.

Of course, I think you should all come to St Augustine to hang, and also come to one of my gigs!
Wish I could say I'd host an event, but I don't have a place to do so...j
But hey, if ever in the area for any reason, please do check my calendar and come to a gig!

I'm totally up for it, work schedule permitting of course. Sounds like fun!

Hopefully not for a week or two?

I'm going to be in St. Augustine on vacation next week. I'm ready for it (a vacation that is). :D
My wife and I live in St. Augustine for 2 years. My oldest son was born there. My roomate from college still lives there.
Elizabeth, I assume that 8:00pm that you begin at the Oasis? We're staying just down the road. They used to have a killer barbeque sandwich.

Yes, I'll be at Oasis at 8:00. I'd love to see you!
This is a fun but kind of an odd gig - I'm playing with my friend Vince Jeffs. He's a really good guitarist, so that's not a negative ... but I still am not sure how to promote it. You see, we really don't do a duo, and we haven't ever rehearsed. He just called me a while back and said he had booked some dates for a duo and the other person could not do them, and asked if I wanted to play them with him. So I play my regular stuff, and he plays leads and rythms, basically it is me doing my act ...with another guy backing me up.
Like I said, it isn't a negative because he is really a tasteful player. But it is a wierd gig because I feel like I am basically being hired as a side man, and yet I am calling all the tunes, and he is just accenting whatever I do.
I say we aren't realy a duo because we haven't ever really rehearsed anything. But it isn't like my solo act either, because I am not as free to take requests and do my regular set-list, you know, I am trying not to choose anything too off the wall for Vince's sake. I mean, he is great at following and knowing when to play and when not to play, but you know how us soloists are, we do all kinds of wierd chords and arrangements, because we can!

Being in Miami, I'm about 6-7 hours by car, but every once in a while I could manage a weekend away and come to N Florida.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but since Florida people are answering I thought it might be a good way to test the waters.
I'd also love to host a weekend down here. I have a spare bedroom with 2 beds, a Murphey Bed in another room, 2 inflatable beds and a dog who howls in the key of E.
I've hosted music weekends for a bunch of pals who get together every year, (San Diego this year on July 4th weekend), so having 4-6 people at my house is something I already know how to do.
Besides the acoustics, there are also plenty of electric guitars, keyboards, amps and a bass to choose from. You might even find a lapsteel or didley bow somewhere around here.
Interested? Email me...

Always interested in have a "pick in" somewhere.
If we are going south, you might want to wait and shoot for sometime in the fall or winter. LOL

I've heard of fall and winter. That's something they have up north, isn't it? http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yep, it sure is.
I actually got to see a lot of it this past year, and this year so far.
Down here, we still have four seasons, they just are not the same as "up north".
We get December, January, February and Summer! LOL

We go down to visit the in-laws near Miami every once in a while. Maybe I'll let you know when the next time will be. We were considering going in late July.
Hey Rick, or any Floridians nearby, I'll be in performing in Flagler Beach again soon and also playing in New Smyrna this Thursday at Riverview restaurant. Check it out!

Liz, send me the detail on the gig in New Smyrna.
Shoot, I live here I should be able to get over and at least say HI.

Other than the July 4th weekend, (I'll be in San Diego), I should be home all summer. During the summer, my time is more flexible too, so a trip to Northern Florida or having company down here is easy.
Elizabeth, If you let me know when you are coming to Miami, provided you know far enough ahead of time so I can advertise, I might even be able to set you up doing a concert at the synagogue I run.
We have started a concert series and in recent months have had Grant Livingston, Ellen Buckstel Siegal and her brother Gary and last weekend we had Kim Bankston, previously of the Temptations and who now performs with the Platters. We have Carla Ulbrich coming in October. In other words, this is your kind of place.
Come sing and sell some cd's, huh? It might pay for the trip!

Hey stratokatsu, that sounds cool! I'll ask my hubby if he was still thinking about going down there this summer. If we did a concert would it have to be a weekend night, or would a weeknight work as well?
Ricks, the gig is this Thursday at Riverview restaurant in New Smyrna. I have been there before, it is a nice place. (I mean that I've been there, I've never played there.) I believe the time frame is 6:30-10:30. Check my website, click on "calendar" - the correct time is posted, and there is also a link to the restaurant website there...

Liz, I am gonna try to get over for a spell.
I have "munchkins" coming for a couple of days so that will determine my after work schedule pretty much. Maybe later on I can make it.

I'm in the same boat as others. Job permitting, I'm in. It'ld be nice to see some of you again.
It would also be fun to have a little forum "meet" at Tradewinds to see Elizabeth again.

Artie, I'm ready for another "pick-in". We just have to get the rest of the group together.
The St. Augustine on a Sat. afternoon sounds like a good idea too. And that could probably be arranged a little easier. Let's keep that in mind and try to do that soon.
I might be in for a St Augustine get together work schedule permitting. Can you ever find parking around that place in the summer? Jared and I drove around and around outside of Tradewinds trying to find a spot a week or so ago and finally gave up. So where is the secret parking place, Elizabeth?

Hey Lisa-
There is no secret parking place. I come about an hour early and park out front in the loading zone and unload all of my gear, and just hope that I luck into one of the three spots around the little circle. That happens fairly often, depending upon how early I am. When it gets close to time for me to play, If none of the three spots open up right there I move my car up Charlotte Street and go ahead and pay the $6 to park in the bank parking lot.
I know it is a drag to pay $6 but I need to be fairly close by to come get my stuff when done. If I did not have equipment I guess i could drive around checking all the spots. You know what the real trick is, find a large parking lot, and the don't give up just because it is all full. Sit there and wait for someone to come move their car, it is usually just 5 minutes, sometimes ten. Beats driving around in circles and finally giving up.
Ever try along the bayfront facing north, along the water? Seems like there are spots there often, but maybe not so many during the day (in the evening there is often a spot to park there.)
I wish I had a spot to host you guys down here but my house is not suitable with the work we are doing right now. It would be fun to see you all though! Hopefully if you all ever plan to come it will be on a Saturday that I don't already have anything booked for the evening.
P.S. I got a new Sunday gig; a place called Allstars, 4-8 pm. Except this weekend, I'll be there 1-4. And three other weekends this summer I wont be there because I'll be out of town. You can check my website calendar.. BUT as of this moment the site is down, had to pay for the next 5 years of domain name and I missed the reminder... ooops... so it is down now but should be popping back up any time at-

OK... just a thought, but if there isn't a suitable place for everbody in St Augustine, or if you want to get together in Jax, I may have a place to meet. This thread looks like there may be several more people than the last get together. A friend of mine that happens to be a very good guitar player himself, also happens to be a Methodist preacher in Jax. His church is on the westside on Ricker Rd and I just went to a workshop that he held in the fellowship hall a couple of months ago. Some of you may know him, his name is Jerry Carris and he plays with Ed Cotton, as well as a swing group. Anyway, if you want, I'll be glad to talk to him and if yall have other ideas that's fine too. The only other thing that came to mind to me is some of the community centers in Jax, those run about $150 for 4 hours. But I'm pretty sure Jerry would be good with a gathering (as long as he's invited to pick :D ) and maybe the group could throw a few $$'s to the church? Just kinda thinking out loud.

Anywhere works for me, as long as we get notice out far enough in advance.
Last time we met there were only about six of us, and we used a felloship hall over on Southside. It worked great.
And, I would not mind at all kicking in a "donation" for the place.
My only reservation now is hearing about some of these players !!! I may be embarassed to be in the same room with them.

Me and my wife gave up long ago looking for "the spot". We just go to the Visitor Center, and pay the $6. Then we walk down St. George's St. to Tradewinds. The walk is nice.

Maybe we can do an "amateur hour". :D
