OK...here's the deal, I'm really wanting to get to choose the piece of Koa for my K14C when I'm at Taylor...however in the other thread it just says Ovkangol...Can I not pick Koa for my guitar...Also, I want an inlay of my name (essentially a squiggly line, you'd never know what it was) at the 14th Fret and the rest of the board blank. Now can this be done? Ok so assuming that it can...Do I set up the whole thing with my dealer before I leave for Taylor, or do we kindof do it while I'm in California...I'm almost too excited for this...:)

I think ovangkol was mentioned just as an example, perhaps because someone asked if it was possible to choose your own wood for a 400 model. I expect that you can choose whatever wood you want as long as you're willing to pay for the model it goes with.

As for the inlay, there may be a custom shop upcharge for that, but I wouldn't expect to pay extra for a fretboard with no markers unless it was impossible to program out in the general line. I expect we'll learn about this and other details (like how and where to place the order) as August draws near.

You will be able to choose your wood for any model.
(at least thats what the most current info is)

As for the inlay, JR said you can have any sort of inlay you would like done...you will just have to pay the custom shop charges. My guess would be that for your signature it would be several hundred list price...even the cheapest of inlays on the custom price list are several hundred...

Its not cheap, but custom work will always demand a premium.

From what I understand, you bring your info with you to Taylorstock, and choose your wood and inlays and stuff, and they will earmark that set of wood and info for you, then you order it through your dealer and the dealer will mention that the set of wood is on hold, they will pick it up in the factory and build it.

Such a beautiful thing :)

Oh I am so ready!! I sold the beloved 714ce this weekend to make room for the guitar I will buy at Taylorstock. The plus side is I will be able to order / buy a new Taylor at the event, the down side is I won't have a premium Taylor to bring with me (I'm down to the Baby and a Big Baby). Anyone one want to bring me a loaner?

So now I need to concentrate on what the new guitar will be. As of now it will most likely be a cedar top / koa back and sides grand concert with a cutaway and no electronics. I'm thinking I'll spring for the 900 wood upcharge and the abalone rosette instead of the agoya. I'll probably have a PUTW #27 installed at a later time. I'm still debating between the GC and the GA, but I'm probably going to go with the GC.

Is it August yet?

Didn't I read somewhere that the 900 LTDs for 2002 will be Koa????? You might want to try and figure that out (K and 9 are real close to same $ per model)....

PS: I think the agoya rosette and top outline look equal or better than abalone....much more subtle with the same range of color and fire (not so glitzy???)....just my .02

This may be a silly question, but will there be Taylor people to push us in the right direction? I am hoping to pick out wood for an all Koa 6 string Jumbo ( would this be a K25?). Looking at raw wood and wondering how it will turn out as a guitar is certainly not my area of expertise.

Also, is switching a standard inlay from one model to another considered custom work?

I tried to load the custom price list from another thread, but couldn't. Could someone e-mail me the list so that I can look and see if I can really afford my dream guitar.

I can't wait for Taylorstock!!!!

Im wondering if Bob T. would be willing to do a special headstock inlay for the guitars that are ordered from Taylorstock.

Just a thought Bob.

MJH...Great idea. Ordering a K25CE.
I also wonder if we can pick our own wood and order models that are not currently available in standard production. Can we do this?
K25CE...
755CE...

I to want to pick out some Koa and I'd be very interested in possibly ordering a Brazilian Rosewood body/Cedar top.

Isn't it August yet?

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes. Anything the custom shop would do, you can request at TaylorStock and pick your own wood for the guitar. Pretty much whatever you dream up, they'll build it. Bring your own inlay patterns, etc. Likewise, you can have a standard model built from the wood you choose. There will definitely be people there to assist you, including Bob himself. As I understand it, you'll get an order number that will be assigned to your guitar. Then, you'll simply work with your local dealer or the dealer of your choice to place the order. Cool, eh? VERY COOL! :) I've got all sorts of ideas running around in my head. I can't wait to hear the Rosewood/Redwood guitar! That might clinch it for me...

But when are we going to get any kind of clue as to prices of anything custom. When I called Taylor about a month ago asking how the Custom Shop worked, they told me that the dealer sends in the request and then at a meeting the Taylor people sit down and discuss whether it can actually be done and how much it would cost. Then they send the cost to the dealer, so that the customer knows. Does this mean if we want something done in the Custom Shop we should have our dealer send the request into Taylor before Taylorstock to get an actual price quote? This is where I am most confused. I have a guitar I would LOVE built, but I'm scared it will cost too much. It would be nice to know that for sure, so I can stop dwelling on it and focus on a guitar I can afford. I just have no way of knowing unless there is an actual price to go off of.

OK.....

This is what I am considering for my next guitar.
While at Taylorstock I will select the wood and work out some details, but this is what Im leaning towards.....

A 415 w/Engelmann Spruce top, Ebony headstock overlay, with a gloss finish all over. (can ya tell Im a 6xx fan?):)

After it arrives home, I will finish it up with some ebony buttons and possibly a custom armrest, and TRC from Capt. Bill.

Any thoughts or comments on this one??:)

Darn you Ed! Thats what im looking into- a gloss 414c with engelmann. I dont know about doing anything to the headstock, but i thought about an agoya rosette and small dot fretboard markers...i wonder how much this would cost??

I am almost affraid to find out.......I mean how much extra could it cost to gloss the whole thing??    I am considering getting the "e" but no "c", but not sure just yet.
I need to ask around and see what the "e" options are, either thru Taylor or on my own

I'm thinking about an NS62 with maybe some special appointments.

What kinda special appointments can I get on an NS? :)

Jennifer raises some good questions regarding the potential cost of picking out some custom options. I'm planning to visit my Taylor dealer before the event and figuring out what the estimated cost would be based on picking out some of the custom options (there was a fax of the option prices circulating earlier but the prices may be old). Even if you're designing your own inlay I would think most of the dealers would have a sense of the cost.

I toured the facility earlier this year and was amazed by the great attitudes of everyone working there. It seemed like it wasn't a job for them but rather an environment of being able to do what you really love. This is attributable to great management since it all trickles down. I have another "famous" guitar manufacturer as a client and the atmosphere there is much different (although my client who is the owner is still a great individual!.) :)

I was thinking of having ( Taylorstock 02 ) Inlaid at the 21st fret on the guitar I will be picking out at Taylorstock. Similar to the way Martin inlays the names on their signiture models. If others would like something like that it may be cheaper, but who knows.

Also I have read a few posts concerning labels, such as having Uncle Bob sign them and such. What would be VERY cool is if we could get a special Taylorstock Commemorative label. This is probably just wishful thinking but ya never know.

Just a thought :)

I'm thinking of a W65 with a pair of gold humbuckers, Bigsby vibrato, and double cutaway....

Eh, just kidding.

I don't know what to order. Guess we have plenty of time to figure it out. So many choices, what to do, what to do....

Does anyone know whether a custom shop price is retail, with the possibility of a discount from the dealer, or is that the actual price that Taylor charges?

I want to put original 900 series inlays on my Taylorstock guitar, but I think it is listed at $800. Not sure I can do that.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

All prices come from taylor as "list prices" and are all subject to the dealer discounting at whatever percentage he or she chooses to do. Most dealers will discount at the same percentage that they do standard guitars at, or very close to that, but some wont give you the same break on a custom guitar.

Either way, if something is 500 dollars on the taylor list for the option, I would not expect to pay that much.
