Guys and Gals,
Just wanted to start a thread to check the interest.
I was thinking of two things.
1. A regular get together of Forum members to jam a little, maybe a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or even a weeknight. I'm sure I could also get a friend of mine (and forum member) to let us use his studio every now and then. Maybe we could visit his studio once per month, lay down a few tracks. It might help promote his business and let us have some fun.
2. Attend a regular open mic, I have a place that is located near 635 and 75. It gets started about 7:30 and we could attend on Wednesday or Sunday evening.
Let me know how many of you guys would come on a regular basis or a hit and miss.

What is the place near 635 and 75? Is it an open mic that already exists?

If I still lived in Dallas I would be there

Yes it is "The Paridise Grill".

Well, I consider myself a fledgling hack, seldom play with others. I'd like to start watching more live amatuers though, it seems the best way to pick some things up.
I live in Southlake, so 635 & 75 is a bit of a hike. I don't mind though. There is a place in Grapevine now that has an open mike night too. Wednesday I think. Usually has a bit of a country bent to it, and I don't do much country. Small doses.

Trust me, I am very much an amatuer. Just remember there is strength in numbers. Find out where the Grapevine thing is. I might check it out.

It's called the Back Porch. Just north of Hwy 12 on Main Street.

This chick I just hooked up with lives at 635 and 75 pretty much. I'll be up there in 2 weekends if everything goes as planned. If yall are doing something on that weekend, I might swing by, if I have a guitar w/ me or not.

Just an FYI, the place in Grapevine is not suitable for a regular "group" going to an open mic. It is generally populated by a small number of performers. Some are solo, some have 2-3 players. They usually trade off with a set or 2 by the house band. The whole place only holds 100 people is my guess. I'd recommend you go and listen once, leave your guitar in the trunk until you decide if you should bring it in. I've been 3 times, only played once.

Paridise Grill will only hold 40 or 50, it is very laid back. I think you guys would be suprised to know even if we talked it up a bunch here we would only get 3 or 4 to show up.

I don't have much planned this weekend. It would be good to meet and share an adult beverage. :D Perhaps we could talk about musical interests and find something we could work on. Let me know if anyone is headed over.

Francis,
We need to hook up and play a little. I would be intereseted in the Friday night thing. I've only got about 4 or 5 songs. I'm not great but I like to have a little fun.
Guys,
I'll probably start doing the Wednesday night thing, not sure about Sunday's.

I spoke with the "KCs", and they've approved an "acoustic jam". I'll be using my Fender Passport as my PA. I'll try to do this every Friday between 6pm and 9pm(unless they want to keep the bar open past 9!). Bring your songs(4 or 5 will suffice, Chris!), friends, and "axe"...
I plan on being at the Irving Columbus Hall(on Rock Island between Belt Line and Story roads) this Friday...

The only problem is the 6:00 is a little early. I'll let you know if I can make it Friday.
Francis, can you play any lead fill?

Harry,
In response to your pm, I don't see where metatex has talked about the get together. After looking through this thread I don't see where anyone has committed to the open mic yet.
I've seen metatex play, he's got some chops baby, I'd love to do a regular get together. Understand an open mic is not a jam session, so to speak. Each perons(s) signs up to sing or play their 4 or 5 songs. Not really a place to sit and jam and learn stuff. Now we can do that, just not at an open mic.
I'm in for a regular monthly get together where we could just jam, I would not mind doing both.
Say an open mic on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday and maybe a jam session on the 2nd Wednesday. I'm confident a friend of mine would even let us use his studio on occasion.
Correct Chip?

I brought my gear last Friday, and no one showed up; and I didn't have any songs that I could play off the top of my head:sick:
But my wife did some spring cleaning, and found some cover songs I had downloaded
So, I'm gonna' try it again this Friday night...c'mon out and join me for a coupla'hours...
BTW, I thought I should give a plug for the Sunday night Blues Jam @ The Pigeon Hole in Irving...while it's "electric" inside, they do have some seats outside where we can "pick an'grin"...

Taygull, other Dallas folks...
I'm up here in dallas working for PwC. With the almost-fiance still in college and me getting off work mentally frustrated and drained at night and having nothing to do, I would love to hook up and play some, hit an open mic, whatever.
Been playing 9 years, not going to claim i'm something amazing but I can pick most things up pretty quick and can sing / play with someone who is afraid of their singing voice but wants to play for an open mic.
Email me at mike.hefer@gmail.com or AIM is Admiral No Beard (90% of the time it looks like i'm offline I'm just invisible at a client but feel free to say hi).
In short - let's hang out and play some guitar if you're from Dallas. I need something to keep me away from these attractive Dallas ladies and nothing distracts like a guitar.

Hey Shiftin, I'll be in touch over the next couple of days.
I took a lesson with one of my old mentors and we changed what key I should sing and play in. I have not worked on any of that stuff so I'm not sure Friday night is going to work. I'm also waiting to hear if Jason is going.
I'd love to play and hang out, pencil in next Wednesday night!
