Time to start planning my winter party. Looking at three possible dates: January 15, 29, or February [edit - thanks, sdm] 5. Not Feb 6 as initially stated. Saturday Feb 5. We've had a pretty good turnout the last couple years and I'm hoping for a bigger turnout this year. I also have an idea or two floating around in my head about how to make this one a little more of an event. Nothing big - I like the way it's worked out in the past- simple food, folks, guitars, and fun - but a li'l somethin' somethin' to finish off the day. I shouldn't even say this much because the idea is only in its infancy, but we'll see what develops. At a minimum, if you had fun previous years, you can expect more of the same. Also, I will be dictating where we eat dinner and it won't be run-of-the-mill chain this time around.

No need to bring food or anything else other than guitars and yourselves.

Looking for feedback on the dates too.

Yahoo! The next DC gathering!

A couple of notes:
February would be better for me. January is the highest-demand period or my year.
January is inventory time for most people in retail so it will be rough for some in retail to come (like my wife, 'fer instance).

Looking forward to the next one.

February 6th is probably best for me, too--although I think the Jan. 15th is also possible. The 29th is out for me, as I'll be driving back from Florida that day. :)

Looking forward to a fun time!

If I can get my car replaced or fixed (my car's back end got removed by another thoughtful driver a week ago tomorrow... might be a total loss) Feb 6 works best for me, too. A long drive, but a lot of fun, if you'll have me.

I don't think you even need a reply from me. hahaha!

I think this is a perfect chance for Lisa and JR to see how us DC veterans do a get-together. ;)

Bring on the fun!

P.S. Does this mean that I won't be able to harass the Outback hostess again? Darn! :(

Unfortunately, I will have moved to the St. Louis area by then. I hope everyone has as good a time as we did last time!

I've never been to an AGF event and have never really played around other players. I'd love to stop in and meet some forumites, check out some cool guitars and hopefully learn a thing or two.

But...

As a relatively novice (assuming, of course, that novice means not very good) player, what can I expect from a gathering such as this? Knowing what I know about the forum and the people who frequent it, I'm positive that everyone will be more than welcoming, regardless of skill level. I just want to get a feel for how deep in over my head I'll be getting. By the way, I'm okay with people laughing at me. Just no poking with sticks.

Thanks,
Austin

In my experience (a couple of different ones of these) you learn a lot, mostly have a good time and get a lot of encouragement. I mean, in one way or another, everyone is in over his or her head. It's that nature of the beast, albeit a very friendly beast. You'll have a great time!

Just ask everyone about me at these gatherings. Ask them how often I'm seen playing guitar. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Besides, I'm the only one that they're allowed to poke with sticks! http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/ubb/thup.gif

Hey ----- no poking Jennifer with sticks...if you are a moderator, you are permitted to take one pass (and one pass only) with your automobile, but no sticks......how many times do I got to tell you kids that?

If my calendar and travel schedule allows, I'll try and show up on Feb 6th (that outa be enough warning for anyone).

I figure we'll have at least three moderators show up, so I like those odds! :D

Austin, will be glad to have you. It's very low key. Jim, will you have your Hamblin's by then?

So far, February 6th is good for me. I've been so busy that I've lost touch with the forum so it will be good time to catch up.

Jim, will you have your Hamblin's by then?

Nope . . . I'm thinking May at the earliest on the Hamblins.

However, there's about a 50/50 chance that I'll have the new CDs. :)

Kevin, will be great to see you again if it works out.

Jim, May??? Ouch. It will be well worth the wait, I'm sure. So what are you playing in the mean time?

Thanks for the encouragement Thumper & Jennifer...sounds like a good time to be had by all. I'd be open to any date...sounds like 2/6 is the popular choice right now.

Yup . . . the wait time is what has always kept me from doing this sort of thing in the past. but when I look back at the time, it seems to have passed much quicker. In other words, I'd have the Hamblins now if I'd ordered them in May of this year, which doesn't seem so long ago . . .

So what are you playing in the mean time?

I'll definitely be "roughing it" for the next six months. For right now, I'm playing a Baby Taylor--and it actually stays in tune! Soon, I'll be babysitting CaptBill's W14ce for a few months. Bummer, huh? ;)

Sorry to hear that, Phil. Glad I at least got to meet you and your wife and Kevin's in the spring.

Ahhhh. Much nicer.

I'll be interested in getting impressions on the 915C... it should be well back by then.

Looking forward to it!

The February date sounds good to me too. Where in N. VA. ?

(I'd be driving down from Baltimore. Also, can I bring a friend and fellow Taylor Guitar owner?)

Thanks!

Dave,

I live in Warrenton, VA. Probably 1.5 hours from Baltimore. I'll give you directions closer to the time. Zip is 20186 if you want to map blast it. By all means, bring your friend.

Well, looks like the dark forces are conspiring against me again. I think the gathering at the Cakes house last year was the same weekend, right?

anyway, I can't make this one either for the same reason - my oldest son will turn 5 on 2/6. Since the Superbowl is on the Sunday, we'll probably have his party on the Saturday.

oh well - I will make it to one of these things eventually... :)

Cakes,

Thanks! I get to Warrenton (I travel five states for my day job) about once a month or so, so I'm familiar with the area... And, traveling on a Saturday will mean ALOT less traffic than a weekday...

I'll let my buddy know and keep an eye on the board for all the details.

Thanks again! Looking forward to February!

Bad news, Paul :( I'm sorry about that. I had forgotten that that weekend was bad for you.
