Somehow I got the notion that Buffalo Bros. was somewhere near (when you're coming from 3000 miles away, that statement takes on new relevancy)....anyone know the answer, and if the answer is yes, anyone interested in a side trip???

T-103 days and counting (that's space biz talk, for sure)...

Unfortunately, Buffalo Brothers is too far away to do on this trip unless you fly in on Wednesday and make the trek on Thursday. It's in Carlsbad, just off the ocean in north San Diego County, about 50 miles away from El Cajon by freeway. The average driver would need about an hour each way in clear traffic. Sorry 'bout that.

It's probably worth the trek if you're interested, though. I've never seen so many Taylors in one place in my life! (except at the Taylor factory :) )

As the Bondo clan will be in the midst of an 16 day sojourn, I believe that the Buffalo Bros. visit is mandatory.....probably on the way in on Wed or Thu. In Cali, an hours drive is a short jaunt....when we lived in Lompoc (central coast), we drove to Ventura/Camarillo to visit In&Out burger and Santa Barabara to get ice cream cones. Perspective!

According to the Taylor website, there are six dealers in the San Diego area: Guitar Center (La Mesa), Guitar Trader (San Diego), La Jolla Music (La Jolla), Scotty's Guitars (Escondido) Guitar Center (San Marcos), and Buffalo Brothers (Carlsbad).

In terms of distance, GC La Mesa and Guitar Trader are, by far, the closest, then comes La Jolla Music. GC San Marcos, Buffalo Brothers, and Scotty's are all considered to be "North County", but still an easy drive. If you go to Buffalo Brothers, call them first to get PRECISE directions, as they can be difficult to find.

I've been to every one of these stores except La Jolla Music. Guitar Trader and Buffalo Brothers have the best selection of Taylors, and Scotty's in Escondido, if I remember, maintains a pretty good selection.

I haven't been too impressed with the selection at GC La Mesa (guitars are dried out, in my always mildly humble opinion); too sparse. I haven't been to GC San Marcos in about three years, so I can't comment on them.

Anyway; could make for a fun side trip...

Scotty's has about 8 Taylors, a couple of big babys, a black 614ce, a couple of 314ce's, a 514ce and a 714ce. The may have a 310 also.

GC - San Marcos has a better selection although theirs are getting pretty beat up. The have 314's, 314ce, 414ce, 514ce, 714ce, 814ce, 712ce, a few 310's, a black 614ce, babys and big babys. Their acoustic room's not a bad place to test drive, unless there are showoffs plugged in (a frequent occurrence).

Buffalo Bros. Well what can I say. It's a paradise no matter what your preferences are.

Guitar Trader. Fair selection, but I had a bad experience there with the staff. It was all I could do to get a quote on a nice K22ce. They couldn't be bothered to show it to me. Their acoustic room is quite small and crowded - not conducive to trying out guitars. Don't know if I would bother to go back again.

Since people have commented on the rest of these stores, La Jolla Music seems to have a few more than Scotty's, but mostly low end just like Scotty's ... and you have to find parking in La Jolla ... not always an easy thing.

If you want to look at high end Taylors in San Diego, you have to go to Buffalo Brothers. All the others carry mostly 3xx, 4xx, 5xx, 7xx, 8xx, and maybe a couple of the rest of the line on occasion. Many don't carry 6xx, but a few do have some.
