Is anyone (besides me?) going on the Acoustic Guitar (magazine) Cruise at the end of this October? Last year several forum members were there. I know a couple besides me are returning.

Anyone?

How was the cruise last year? Musically, was it worth it, or is it more just a cruise???

I thought the cruise was worth every penny, which is why i'm going back again. i had personalized instruction from Peppino d'Agostino several times, also several excellent small group instructions from the likes of David Hamburger, Happy Traum, and Scott Nygard. Met lots of great fellow guitar players, some from the forum, and it was a fantastic time. We had clinics / semi-private lessons daily (all optional), and the guest artists performed for us each night. On the last night we had open mic where anyone was welcome to get up and perform.

Highly recommended.

I'd love to go to something like that, but I'm really not a good enough acoustic player (electric, yes; acoustic, nope).

That, and I don't think I could swing the cash right now. I bought a house ~2 mos ago and I'm broke! ;)

Would love to go, but have already booked a '60s and '70s rock & roll cruise in November...and I'm taking my guitar on that one, too.

Maybe next year...

Dennis,

My honey and I are going, and we're bringing along another couple that couldn't resist after we returned from last year's cruise... (He's the guitar player (actually one of my students), and she's the enabler ;) .

Like you, I highly recommend this as a great get-away that includes indulging a common passion with other really great folks; making new friends and contacts - and getting some quality time with some excellent guitar teachers as mentioned in your post.

But, in my opinion, one of the best features of the cruise was the evening jams that popped up all over the ship in the public areas. Clusters of guys and gals, makin' some fine music and having one helluva good time! All levels of experience, and all styles of music could be found.

It must have been good, as I have been told that more than half of last year's participants are returning this year...

If you can't make it this time around - I have it on good authority that there WILL be a Third Annual AG Cruise, in July 2005 - to Alaska!

Dennis - I'll see you onboard in a few weeks!

Peace,

- dave sewell
