What kind of food do you want? If you want cheap stuff there are hundreds of good 24 hr mexican joints.
For more money, there is a Benihana Japanese Steakhouse thats nearby, or Seau's which is like a sportsy place (owned by San Diego Charger Junior Seau)
Or you could go to Dave and Busters and play games and eat :)

I'd go for just about anything. Just don't put any food in front of me that hasn't been cooked.....Sushi.....<gag me with a spoon>

There's a Benihana? I didn't know that ... of course, I'm not really into that restaurant ... went once to the one in San Francisco ... decided I liked another similar restaurant (Niban) more so I never went back.
Of course, near Seau's is In-N-Out ... it's a fast food hamburger place, but they're quite different from McDonalds. And I think there's a Outback Steakhouse over there ... and a whole bunch of other restaurants ... how is everyone's taste?

I don't care what I have to do....I'm eating at In-N-Out at least once (the more the better) while I'm there. It was hard enough living in AZ and having to drive 4 hours for the nearest one, but now I'm 2500 miles away and I NEED my In-N-Out.
But I also plan on stuffing myself with authentic Mexican food. I need a Mexican fix really bad! My mouth is already watering just thinking about it. Yummy!!!!

BJ's is also very good- about 10 mins away...they serve GREAT Pizza (its like an Uno's or something like that) and they have the best dessert in town...the Pizookie :D Its a cookie, cooked deep dish like a pizza with ice cream on top and they serve it straight out of the oven. MMMMM. They also have thier own microbrewery. Its a very TGIFridays atmostphere.
Mary- Benihana is on the south side of the 8...across from fashion valley (or somewhere around there) on a little hill :) Its overpriced, but it can definitely be fun.

We may want to keep in mind that some people will not have cars available. So, something close to the hotel would be nice unless several people attending will have cars.
Once the event gets to within a couple of weeks and we have a good idea of how many would be attending, maybe someone in SD could make reservations. Anyone up for the task? Whomever decides to take this job, it might be nice to see a list of 10-15 resturants and the basic type of food that they serve. Another thread/poll?
We can figure out exactly what time and where later.
I'll eat anything, after all I am British. :)

The best fast food in San Diego is Rubio's. Home of the fish taco.
For British fare there used to be a place called "The Tickled Trout" in Mission Valley and the Blarney Stone in the gaslamp quarter downtown. I haven't eaten at either place so I don't know how they boil their food. For steak you can't beat "Bully's" in Mission Valley near the T&C. They have excellent Prime Rib. There are so many late night mex places that I won't even mention them. They're all good (what isn't at 2am?). Benihana's is located in Mission Valley (which is where the T&C is located). For fine dining the Gaslamp quarter has some excellent places to eat. I know there are some current San Diego residents in this forum that can add to this list. I lived in Pacific Beach (San Diego)for 15 years before I moved to NoCal 4 years ago so I remember a few places.

I have SO over eaten Rubio's that I don't know if I could eat it again for awhile. Even though it would be nice to head over to the original one. Then I may be able to force something down my throat.

I don't care where we eat. I'd just prefer that when it was alive, it had RED BLOOD! Yeah, I know that will PO leaf eaters...

There are so many restaurants in this town, it's downright ridiculous.
If you like steak, and want to stay near the hotel on that first night in, then Bully's is the place. It's moderately priced, and very good. Another great steak place (my current favorite) is Red Oak, which isn't far from Taylor. At one time, the only printed menu they had was there beer menu; they rolled the food menu around on a blackboard.
For those who have never had a Rubio's fish taco, it's a must. I could live on them. They're located all over San Diego, including one of the malls close to the T&C.
Anthony's Fish Grotto is a pretty good seafood place. I'm not sure if there's one in Mission Valley, but there is one out in El Cajon; probably 15 minutes from the T&C. The Brigantine, also close to the El Cajon Anthony's, is good for both steaks and seafood.
If you like Mexican food, you certainly won't be disappointed. We have more restaurants out here that end in "...berto's" than anywhere else in the world. Most of it's pretty good, and you can't get too much more authentic and stay north of the border...

I don't know about that one! When was the last time you were in Tucson, AZ? If you've never been there then you haven't experienced the Beto's, Los Berto's, Filaberto's, and one other ...berto's that I can't think of the first part of the name. I'll bet there are more ...berto's per square mile in Tucson, then in San Diego. hahahaha  I can't wait to eat my fill. I REALLY miss Mexican food!!!!

Ive been to both...San Diego wins hands down.
uh oh...looks like Jennifer is wrong
There are alot in Tucson, but San Diego wins...not to mention the high score it earns on the unintentional comedy scale for the fact that one guy takes your order, cooks it, serves you, and buses your table when it gets late...and you cant understand a word he says.
I once had one of these guys tell me that "to go" was not an option at 2 in the morning. I said "Can I have a quesadilla and a chorizo/egg burrito to go?" and he said "No To Go" and I was like huh???? and he said "No To Go" again, and refused to elaborate.
I ate in the restaurant that night...weird, and hilarious at the same time.

San Diego has more ....berto's per square mile then Tucson? If anything then maybe they are equal. Tucson isn't that large and San Diego is quite a bit larger. So don't jumpt to the conclusion that I am wrong. San Diego may have more total ....beto's, but I don't know about per square mile. hehehehe
But it doesn't really matter much....I just want my Mexican food!!!!!!

What you forget is that Tucson is really a big place...the city limits are quite expansive, its just that not even close to all of tuscon is developed or even inhabited...so...chew on that :)

You're just trying to get all technical because you want me to be wrong. ;) You just can't stand me being right. hehehehe
When I talk about square mile I'm talking where people live, not where the desert animals are. But in the end it just doesn't matter as long as I get all the Mexican food I can stuff in my stomach before I head back to the Mexican-less east coast.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.....Mexican food, yada, yada. I get enough of that here in Fresno w/ such a huge farm worker population as we have, you get some REAL authentic Mexican food. Like the kind of stuff you think was originally based on a dare!
All I care about(and Jennifer, too I'm sure) is making sure my Double Double addiction gets some attention. I'll probably need my fix Thursday night. If not, Saturday before all the Taylor stuff sounds like the perfect time. A belly full o' Dbl-Dbl and rosewood as far as the eye can see..............it's going to be a little slice of heaven......
BTW, I work about two blocks from an In-N-Out and my regular days are Monday and Friday. Life is good.

A little tip for you folks who have yet to experience an In & Out Double-Double: DON'T unwrap the burger all the way before you eat it. Unwrap it as you go, or you'll be eating your burger off your lap...

Call me silly, but I'm looking for a place that's close to the hotel where I can be served a painfully dry gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, a nicely aged ribeye done to perfection, and a glass (or two, or three...) of a chewy domestic cabernet -- Say, Rodney Strong. Top that off with a good cup of coffee with a Sambuca to stir in, and the ol' Gutch-Meister will be ready for a walk back to the hotel and an easy acoustic jam as a night cap!
Oooooooooh -- I can taste it now!!!
