For those of you who will be renting a car while in San Diego, and who plan on driving yourselves to the Taylor facility, e-mail me for the best directions from the Town & Country (nice digs, that hotel is).

And if you need directions to anywhere else in town, lemme' know.

Hey, just tryin' to do my part...

Steve: There's a vicious rumor going around that you're hosting a big party on August 8th for about a hundred of your closest guitar playing friends. Is this true???? You're alright...

Can we have a temporary forum for the San Diego trip? I'm thinking for posts such as "Who's driving and from where?" and "Who will be there the 8th? Want to do something?" It would be really helpful since it seems that there will be a few people driving and coming early or staying later.

And I wish there were more single girls going. It would be so nice to be able to room with at least one other person to cut the cost of the hotel. $327 plus taxes for 3 nights of hotel plus a plane ticket and food won't work. I may be able to do one night at that hotel, but I can't do all 3 with a hotel room to myself. Sometimes I think it would have been easier to be born a guy. I already know of plenty of guys going alone, and I'm sure some of them may hook up and share a room. <sigh> I'll think of something.

Absolutely nothing will stop me from coming, so don't worry about me cancelling.

Sorry for my rambling....I hate being poor! :(

Don't want to start a trend for another 100 people to follow but.....

I'M GOING!!! Reservations made!

Arrive on August 6, never been to San Diego before so thought I'd check it out, and leaving on August 11.

I'm excited, does it show?

JR and Fellow Taylorstock attendees:

Made reservations this afternoon for August 8,9,and 10.....hopefully, some of us who arrive on the 8th can find each other at the Town and Country

Checked on the golf situation, $79 at the course across the street (including cart) where they have 27 holes and a river running thru it...anyone interested???? We can get preferred tee times 30 days in advance...let me know..

I'm so very much looking forward to three days of Taylors and music (sort of a take-off riff on the original Max Yagur statement at the other "stock)....

OK, I'll go work on that Joni Mitchell song....

really worked the plastic today, reserving rooms in Key West for July 4th and San D for August....

Hope to see you in San Diego..

til then

Am thinking about the golf, but don't know if I want to haul clubs AND guitar. Think I'll sit around the pool and entertain the guests with an acoustic rendition of "Aida"...

Logistics could be an issue with this, although I'd still love to do it. I don't know that everyone is showing up by the 8th, although I guess you never know.
The issues come into play with me and work. I normally get home from work around 8:00-ish. I can try to convince my boss that this is required therapy for me, but I don't know if he'll buy that. In all seriousness, he's a real easy-going guy, and would probably have no problem with me leaving early.
Maybe I can get a better perspective if A) I knew how many people were arriving on or before the 8th, and B) I knew how many of those people would be interested in hanging out in the pool and on the deck for the evening.

Hey Steve,

Just my $.02, but it looks like the hotel we're staying at is pretty nice. It might be easier if we all met around the pool there, then you and your wife stop by after you get off work.

That is, unless you can pile a hundred clowns into the back of your car...

The Town & Country IS a pretty nice hotel. As for the hundred clowns fitting into my truck, I'm sure stranger things have happened.

But not much stranger...

I think a jam session around the pool sounds like it's just the ticket. I was just kidding Steve. :)

Are we going to be taking up a whole floor or are we going to be spread all over??

just curious..............

jmeinel

That will be up to the hotel. Usually with big groups the hotel sets aside a block of rooms. Sometimes the rooms are split up throughout different floors. Like on one floor there may be 3-4 rooms and on the next floor 2 rooms. We won't know until we get there.

Jennifer :D

P.S. Gutch - You and I want single girls to come for completely different reasons. My motivations are purely financial. Are you bringing your wife? You won't be able to get away with as much if she is there. ;)

It is all about the timing with a touch of luck. There is no easy trick. I worked for American Airlines for a year during college and that's how I learned. For example, there was an period of 1 hour where there was a flight from DFW to Atlanta for $10 each way (I'm not kidding!) and when people found out they were booking trips like crazy and then it was pulled. Of course, your likely never to run into a fare that good ever, but that's what I mean about timing and luck. There are fares that you know are good and when you see one, then book it. Like a flight from DC to LAX a good fare is $200 round trip. You're likely to see that fare quite often, but it's not always there. I don't know what a good fare is from NC to San Diego, but keep your eyes open and when you see something good grab it (there's no hurry yet). And if you plan on renting a car, keep in mind that you may save a bundle by flying into one of the LA area airports and then driving down. Check LAX, Burbank, Long Beach, and Orange County(John Wayne Airport).

Here are a few travel sites:
Expedia (http://www.expedia.com)
Travelocity (http://www.travelocity.com)

For both of those sites you will be able to see a fare list for all the airlines. But keep in mind that sometimes those lists are slow to be refreshed. I've seen them list $200 fares when they no longer existed. And if you are particular about the airline you will fly (like me) then just go to the airline's site and check out their prices.

Good luck!

Try priceline.com. My friend Taylorsmitten got us a great deal on our tickets. I believe that you place a bid on your airline ticket. They will let you know if you get that price. The only thing is that they charge it to your charge card before letting you know that you won your bid on tickets. Afterwards, they tell you what airlines you will be traveling. I hope this makes sense. I'm sure that they have instructions on their webpage. I wish I could give you more info but I didn't book our tickets.

On hotel room location...

they asked me where I wanted to be. I asked what the reservations clerk preferred. She said either the high floors on a tower or 1st floor by the pool. I picked by the pool on the theory that it'd be easier to get to when I'm tired and I like pools and noise doesn't bother me too much. :)

I originally asked her and she said no. Then I invited an old guitar-playing friend who lives in Colorado. He initially sounded very interested, but has been cold to the idea of late. So, I just showed my wife the resort website and asked if she'd be interested if my friend backs out. She said, "Can I get a massage there?"

"I always give you a massage," I told her. To which she responded, "Not THAT kind of massage! A REAL MASSAGE!!!" Anyway, she agreed it would be nice to get away from the kids for a few days so, in a roundabout way Jennifer - Yes, she is coming.

Maybe...

For cheap tickets, you can also check Carlsbad Airport...its about 30 mins away and sometimes you can steal a cheap flight into there...(conveniently, its about 5 mins from Buffalo Bros. :) )

Are there going to be conference rooms of any sort available at the hotel? Or are impromptu jam sessions reserved for guest rooms and the Taylor factory. I am not staying at the hotel (home is nearby) but I am still very interested in staying up as late as possible on Friday night playin' some tunes and learning new stuff! (Y'all know I can stay up late with the best of em!)

I don't know that any flight from North Carolina would end up in Carlsbad without a number of connections, ending up on a puddle-jumper...
